~RIDING QUADS~ Calorie burn?

We ride ATVs and we ride really HARD. Primairily on trails with large tree root wads and having to balance on 2 tires theur huge puddle and getting stuck and having to lift 500 pounds out of mud pits. EVERY SINGLE muscle in our bodied are sore after wards. Abs back side legs butt arms chest even our jaws are being used. We ride for about 4-6 hours with like 10 minute breaks every hour or so. We sweat A LOT, the quads definitly DO NOT do all the work..
Now my question is..
Does anybody know how many calories are burned in doing this for an hour?
These are powerful sport quads not big boat sized ones with power steering and backrest. Its basicly like rowing really hard but also like riding a horse while not sitting down on the horse and with all of the other balance, strength and cardio involved in this sport I just dont know how to classify it when counting the calories. Jet skiing is in the list of activities but riding ATVs is WAY more extensive than riding jet ski cuz we have one of those to and its nothin like the way we ride... Any help would be great.. Thanks..

It does get frustrating to try to figure out exercise calories. I found it so difficut to figure out exactly how many calories I was burning for the different things I was doing that I invested in a heart monitor. Not sure if this is an option for you or not but it does make it a lot easier to know exactly what you burned. Plus i find it fun to see my pulse and see what different activties work best for me. I was surprised to find out I burned about the same amount of calories in a 45 minutes step class than I did in an hour body combat class. I found a heart monitor online at HMR? It was a Polar FT4. It cost 79.00 dollars. I also bought the gel that you need to wet the strap. It was free shipping and cheaper than ****'s.

Yeah im thinkin that investing in one of those monitors would be a good idea.. I have looked at them before but not in depth. Now i will. Havent heard of the ones with a gel strap tho.. Thanks for the info0

Sorry. I meant that I bought gel to put on the strap that goes around your body (under your chest). There are two parts on the strap that have to be wet in order to get a reading on your heart.
If you do get one, I would love to know what you burn riding a QUAD. What a FUN way to exercise!0 -
has anyone figured this out yet? I found a website called calorielab.com that gives calories burned based on weight for various things but unfortunately this wasn't one of them. One person said that riding a motorcross bike is about 400 calories an hour-wonder if this is close?
I went four-wheeling this past weekend and know that what I did was more strenous than riding a riding lawn mower-closest thing I could find on this web-site.1 -

According to Yahoo answers it is between 150 to 250 calories an hour. I guess you just need to judge how hard you think you are working.0

Based on other exercises/reports I figured out 6 calories for every minute. Hope this helps.0

Those estimates given were too low! If you are an active riding getting up, down, shifting weight and riding on un-even ground then you are definitely buring more like 600-700 calories an hour IMO.0

We were out for four hours today riding on pavement for a small amount of time then riding on slushy snow. I stood up part of the time to give myself a lower body workout as well. I could feel my thighs and arms burning as we had to hang on tight and steer as the atv's wanted to follow every rut, were slipping and sliding.
Since what we were doing today most closely resembled snowmobiling I went with this calculation. It calculated my weight, height, gender and time spent.
It says I burned over 1800 calories in a four hour period. I think that sounds about right.
