Those programs are not good role models for responsible weight loss - they are all under STRICT doctor supervision and I've read some articles suggesting less-than-healthy practices on the BL set to up the weight loss.

You've already lost 7 lbs - that's a great start! Keep up what you're doing and lose it the slow, steady way. Quicker does NOT equal better.

1200 calories is too little many women on here eat under 1500 and that's not good, it locks up your body as it fights to keep fat on for reserve
  • Patience. Over the next few months you will lose more weight. It's not like you put it on in one week - there's no reason to expect to take it off in one week.

Using shows like "The Biggest Loser" for a role model isn't really good. What are you missing? The $100,000 prize at the end to motivate you (or whatever it is)? Constant support from personal trainers and nutritionists? Practically killing yourself by exercising too much? Dying of embarrasment when you have to strip down and stand on a scale in front of millions of people?

I am totally with accountant_boi on this one. The BL is not a good model to lose weight by. From my understanding those people are training for 6 hours, or so, a day. Who has that kind of time when work, family, and kids play into a day? They also have people preparing food for them, and Jillian yelling at them. In the REAL world, a pound a week is safe and reasonable. The slower you take it off, the more apt it is to stay off. Slow and Steady wins the race.

They work out all day long and eat about a 1000 calories a day.. Just remember the slower you go and make it a life style change you are more likely to keep it off. You can Google most of the people on the show and look at how many have actually kept off the weight. not many! so slow and steady wins the race just keep that in mind.
Just so you know I love the show and watch it every time its on.

Dont eat all your exercise cals??:ohwell:
  • Don't be in such a rush to lose weight otherwise you could risk gaining it back plus more. Trust me...I know.

I also agree those on the Biggest Loser exercise all day long and not a good model to follow. That's why I don't watch that show.

Good luck with your weight loss.

On one of the first episodes of the Biggest Loser this season, several of the competitors, in a brief montage, said how many calories they had burned that day during their workout. The highest I remeber was 8,500, and there were several more above 5,000. That being said, it takes 3,500 calories to burn a pound, so they can lose 2 lbs/day if they repeated that workout each day.

But, like many others have said, that just can't happen in the real world.
  • If I worked out that hard and burned 5,000 calories or more in a day, I would probably be too sore to walk or do anything for at least 2 or 3 days. Consistency is better.
