Once you reach your goal weight and are trying to just maintain... will you continue to ALWAYS use MFP or do you think that one day you'll be able to control your portions and calories to maintain?

I often wonder this too. I have been overweight for so long, that right now at this very second, I don't believe I will ever be thin. I have tried so many "diets" before and failed each and every time that I think that sometimes being thin is just a fantasy. I am trying to believe with all my being that it will not just be fantasy, and become reality.

    I hope that made sense.

I will always use it. I hate to say this, but its become like my crutch. I don't want to go back to the way I started, no way. I'll gladly take 5 minutes a day to log what I eat over being like that again.

I am a scale junkie. I weigh myself every single morning like three times and sometimes even before I go to bed. I understand that it can fluctuate, so I don't freak out if it goes up (or down) a little. On that note, once I reach my goal, I think I can continue to monitor my weight just with the scale. If I notice that it stays up for too long, then I can "readjust". I hope that makes sense....that's my plan anyway.

I can honestly say that as long as I have been eating healthy, I've learned what my limits are and I know how to eat now. Sometimes I'll go awhile without logging because I pretty much know (by eating alot of the same foods daily) and I don't obsess about it.

I don't think I'll be a daily visitor here much longer after I hit my goal but will continue to monitor my weight and if need be, come back.

I have far too many friends around here not to stay a regular, but as far as actually logging my calories, I dunno....I'm far from being decent at guessing my intake at this point, so it's kinda a non issue, but if I ever become skilled enough on my own not to need it then I probably will. Until then, though, I'm a loggin' fool.

That's how I feel too.....I already have gone days or even a couple of weeks without logging and find that I can at least maintain, if not lose. SOOO all that being said, it appears to be an individual thing....kind of whatever you need/want to do!

But isn't this a super-cool site???? Thanks Mike!

I've been maintaining for 2 months and find myself going a day or 2 without logging. I pretty much know the calories of all the foods I usually eat and know what I can and cannot have. If anything, I underestimate because I am used to my "weight-loss calories" and find difficulty upping the calories to maintance. Many days I input my breakfast and lunch and then don't bother with the rest of the day because I know how many calories I have left and can tally it in my head. I watch the scale daily and if my numbers ever go up for too long, then I'll be back inputting every bite.

    Good question
I've been at my target weight for a few months
I still weigh in weekly and log in my weight, BUT I don't log in my cals (on this site)
I've gotten a little lazy and use a piece of paper to log down the number of cals of an item only...

    I don't know if/when I'll stop doing that.....still keeps me accountable...

I have a strange relationship with logging my food and how much I eat.

If I log it, I tend to stay within my calories, and if I go over, it's not by very much.

If I don't log, sometimes I use it as an excuse to eat, and this can lead to a binge. I really don't know why I do this but I do, so I think I'll continue to log my food most days

I am also a scale junky..addicted to weighing myself multiple times to make sure my scale is going in the right direction..I bet I will most likely always be conscious of my food intake and portion size now..I find whenever I eat ANYTHING..whether I am at home or out and about..I grab a piece of scrap paper and jot it down to log in. Which isn't a bad thing..till laundry day when I am cleaning out pockets and pockets full of little papers with food written on them !!!
