Videos VS Gym

Do most people work out to videos or at the gym? I feel like I'm constantly seeing people posting their exercise from video workouts. What are the benefits to doing these instead of just the elliptical or running or something at the gym? I don't have enough room to breathe in my dorm right now nevermind workout but maybe this summer depending on where I live I will try!

I think you need to do what works for you! I love my gym, but some people don't have one, or can't afford one, or don't want one... but if you're exercising then it's all good!!!! I have a couple dvd's, and Jillian's awesome, but for now, I'm really happy with the gym!0

Definitely videos. I'm doing P90X now. You could almost do that at the gym. However, if you're in a dorm at school...most colleges let you go their gym for free while attending. I used to love the gym, but after the Army, I realized you don't have to go to the gym.0

I'd go to the gym if I could, I'd prefer that actually but I'm a SAHM to a 1 and a 3 year old so I do my videos instead.0

I do both. Its not always easy to go to the gym, and I dont want to go to the gym everyday. So I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week and do a video everyday. I do like how the video's tone you up. As Jillian as said in her video's she likes to do an oldie but goodie move. Plus its nice to change it up and often with video's!0

I am in a contest for weight loss that includes 8 weeks free at the gym... the winner gets a years membership. I am way out of the running for winning so I have started equipping my house with alternatives to the gym. I actually prefer being at home right now because I am obviously one of the "contest members" and I am fairly out of place at the gym. However, I have started a Zumba class there and so I go to that each week. (The Wii game is ok, but the ambiance of the class is much better.) I will continue to go to that even after the contest too. So right now while I can, I take advantage of SOME of the gym's features but I do prefer to workout at home at my own pace. After the contest I will do mostly everything at home except Zumba, and then much later, when I feel more comfortable in workout clothes in public, I hope to re-join the gym and utilize it for help with plateaus and maintenance goals.
Ok with all that, I think my advice is to work out where you are most comfortable, but if it helps with motivation, mix it up if you are able!0 -
I think it depends on the person.... personally, I can't stand videos, they bore me to tears, and I don't try hard at all when I do them. No one is there to see me, so no one can see me stop and take a break cause I'm so bored, and they just annoy me as well.....
The gym on the other hand I LOVEEE..... I always work really hard (even though I know no one actually is watching me, I feel like if I was being lazy, they other people there would know, and then look at me haha), I like the atmosphere better, I can watch TV while I do my cardio, etc. I also, have the time to go the gym, which I know a bunch of people with small children or other commitments don't. I just get up at my normal time and go straight there (I only have afternoon classes this semester so it's convenient).
But seriously, I think it 100% depends on the person.0 -
I did videos exclusively for about 5 months. I like the convenience, variety, and not having to leave home! Now I go to the gym 3 times a week and do videos every day. So whatever works for you is the best thing to do.0

Right now it's both for me.
I had been doing just videos, but I really was not being dedicated to doing them. So I joined a gym at the beginning of the year and using that right now to get the weight off, and then I will go back to the videos for maintenance. I have some fun videos, but honestly sometimes I just want to zone out and going to the gym I can put on my headphones, get on the cardio machines, and not have to think about counting reps, dance steps, etc. Plus I want to do some swimming and don't have access to a pool otherwise.
I do still use hand weights and do abs at home on the days I don't go to the gym.0 -
I have numerous videos, but I never really got anywhere with them. I'm not the most coordinated person (which really means I'm not coordinated AT ALL), so I have a hard time doing some of the workouts. I have tried a few beginning Yoga DVD's, and I do like those for stretching.
Then, I joined a gym at the beginning of the year and I actually really like it! My boyfriend and I go together, which really helps to get me off the couch and working out. Some nights I watch TV while working out, but most nights I listen to music on my iPod and do my cardio workout.
You have to find out what works for YOU and stick to it. Good luck!=)0
