okay..i am planning on doing this water detox for few days to cleaning out my body since I been eating alot of processed, and packaged food lately and it's making me feel really sick. (i havent decided how long but last time i did it for 21 days and i felt great during and after it) I don't know what kind of effect this would have on my body and im afraid it would have more negative effects than positive ones. can someone enlight me on that..
also I have problem eating enough calories on the days that I eat healthy since became a ovo-vegetarian about four month ago. I'm currently on 1200 calories diet, and i exercise almost everyday... I am afraid to eat more than 1200 calories since I don't know if I enter amount of calories burned during exercise correctly..if I over estimate the calories I would gain weight, but if i under estimate the exercise calories i wouldn't be eating enough calories to help me loss weight.. ugh this is so confusing.. how can i find that happy medium?
thanx..

Just be careful of liquid diets. I heard that if you are on them for too long it can effect your kidneys in a bad way. Do some scientific research and find out for sure.

If you're really worried about the calorie estimations maybe you should invest in a heart rate monitor!

there's been a lot of discussion on this site about detox. For religious reasons, and with full knowledge of the consequences, I'm fine with someone doing it. But I wholeheartedly, after lots of research from medical sites, disagree with them for medical or dietary reasons. They can be dangerous and more often then not, are unnecessary. If done with a doctor's supervision, then ok, but otherwise. I don't agree with them at all. Just my opinion but...

here is a good quick article from a gastroenterologist on mayoclinic.com about it.

you plan to only drink water for 10 days!?!?!

so, you'll basically be starving yourself for 10 days. that really sounds bad for a lot of reasons. i would seriously reconsider doing your detox, or at least talk to your primary care doctor prior to doing it. your body needs food everyday. sounds very risky to me. please take care.:flowerforyou:

I hope not, too! I hope you mean maybe just drink extra amounts of water but that, too, has problems, as it can chase out some needed things from your system as well and can force your kidneys to work too much.

I've started taking fiber pills, about 8 a day, to help me with {ahem} that issue. My doctor suggested it for a while. I already take fiber pills because I simply don't get enough but she suggested upping it for a while due to {ahem again} 'issues' I was having with not going.

I think you are not aware what you are doing to your body. I looked at your profile and It seems to me you are setting yourself up for a life of healthproblems and maybe even an eating disorder. You might want to talk to a doctor or nutritionist that can explain to you about starvation mode, healthy eating and what you are doing to your health. Are you aware that if you only drink water your Hair can fall out do to severe malnutrition, you can have problems with your teeth, organs and nerve ends dying in your extremeties and brain. I had a friend who was severly depressed and stopped eating, she endet up in a nursing home since here nerves were so damaged. She is walking now with spints on her legs ( due to calcium loss) and still has not gotten all her feeling back in her legs.
Do you think that would be an inspiration for you little sister? Or do you think it would be cool to end up that way? Please think about what you are doing to yourself..I do have a daughter that is 20, she is 5'7" and weighs about 120 pounds. She is very attractive, has a steady boyfriend and eats whatever she wants ( she is in the armee and does PT all the time). I hope your reconsidering your goals.
This message is a private opinion, and I guess you can choose whatever you do....

A water detox or any liquid detox is a bad idea!! There are other ways to get the toxins out of your body. I did the Wild Rose Detox a few months ago. This sets you up with foods that will help detox your body. You will be able to have things like rice, fish, veggies, and a variety of other foods. The kit ($25) includes three different herbal supplements & a great guide to follow. The detox lasts 10 days & I would only recommend it to the chronic junk food eaters. Because I am normally a very healthy eater it did not do much for me, but for my friends who are the opposite of me it worked wonders and helped get them on a healthy eating path & we all lost around 5 lbs each. I think a system such as this would be a much better way to begin your weightloss & much healthier!!!!
    Best of luck!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Dito w/ gabi_ele! You are on a very dangerous path. I think you need to talk to your parents about this. I'm concerned that you are going to hurt yourself with this kind of dieting. I don't think anyone would encourage you to weigh under 110 lbs.
  • I don't know....to me it sounds like a lot of people are telling you no or to check with a doctor, first. Personally, I believe fasting is okay as long as it's not a regular thing. Maybe doing a body detox for a week once a year would be okay, but making fasting a regular thing can harm your body. I really wish I could give you the links to the articles I read on fasting; they were really interesting, and a lot of them were written by healing centers. Most of them I remember said that the body will not harm itself while fasting if you do it correctly, and that fasting simply provides the body with the best conditions to heal itself (your digestive system doesn't have to break down so much, etc.) I even remember one of them saying that when people are sick, there's a reason they're not hungry and to listen to their body when it's telling them not to eat (don't "eat to keep your energy up" like people will tell you, because your body is telling you somehting different). Anyway...I think you'll be okay fasting because if you do it right it really can be good for your body. Just remember not to do things that will drain your energy, get LOTS of sleep (you'll need it more than usual) and do NOT overeat when your fast is over. Also, don't make fasting a regular thing. Do it once a year, twice if you really think you need it...don't make it frequent or your body actually will begin to hurt itself.

    P.S...
Also, check with your doctor first!!!!!!!!!
I believe fasting helps but it's always better to check with a professional first.

wow all of the posts..scared me quiet a bit.. First of all thank all of you for your useful informations and concerns. Like i said before, I done one of the water fast for 22 days and felt healthy afterward. I know that my body will need nutrition to keep on going that is why I will take multivitamin & multimineral supplement while on the fast. I figured since i have been eating so much unhealthy food the least i can do is to flush all the dirty stuff out of my system. I will definitely go check with my doctor, and I do not have a eating disorder...the fact of eating disorder scares me..
    thank you all again.. :flowerforyou:

I really hope you do check with a doc.

This just sounds so unhealthy to me. There is so much more that your body needs each day other than "vitamins and minerals"--carbs for fuel, fiber to keep things flowing, sodium is necessary (to a point and you can die from too little sodium in your body), fat ('good' fat is essential!), etc. Your doc can give you much better advice. Please see them and maybe ask to be referred to a nutritionist.

And, when I read that you're a 110 pounds now and want to lose 20 more! Well...unless you're 4 foot tall there is NO WAY that you should be trying to weight 90 pounds.

You're young--don't mess up your body so bad now that the rest of your life will be misery from health problems. Being too skinny is just as unhealthy as being overweight and has it's own health issues and risks associated with it.

yes, please, be aware of the side effects of liquid diets. My wife went on one for 2 weeks when she was in college, and had to have her gall bladder removed.

here is a good article about it from webmd

there are many benefits to fasting for a reasonable period of time. I did a 10 days master cleanse once and felt just as good doing a 3 day water. So I dont think that you need a long time to do it, there is a lot of debate over whether it is healthy or not, It is an ancient form of healing and I think if you do it it is okay and if you dont that is just as okay. It is up to the individual whether it is right for them or not, if you have any major health problems, then you really need to talk to a doctor. i just think there are lots of people on here who lose in "unhealthy ways" diet pills etc, fasting should not be condemned.
