Hi

I have a grade 2 tear of my gastrocnimus (calf muscle) been on crutches now for two weeks. Getting about the house without them but for any length of time getting about I need the crutches. I now have serious pain in my thigh - don't understand why I now have pain further up. I haven't been putting much weight on it so couldn't have done much to it .... anyone get any thoughts .

If it's localized pain and your thigh is red and hot to the touch, go get some medical help right away--it could be a clot, which you want to rule out if there's a possibility of it being there. Otherwise, phone your doctor or a nurse (not sure if you have a service like this, but in my city we have a hotline that connects you to nurses who can help go through symptoms and history) to ask about it--the doc who's treating your muscle injury should know what's going on.

You should get it checked out by a doctor. It could be strained from compensating for your injury, especially if you're holding your lower leg up while using your crutches, or it could be something more serious.
