lupron injections = weight gain?

Hello,
my doctor is prescibing lupron injections to shrink fibroids.. Basically it throws you into menopause temporarily from what I understand, it is supposed to help shrink fibroids before possible hysterectomy.. my question, is can it cause weight gain.. I'm already feeling defeated as soon as I hear of a medicine.. anybody with experience.. any thoughts...

I have been on lupron injections as a Gestational surrogate. Lupron shuts down your ovaries and therefor estrogen production. Fibroids are "feed" by estrogen and that is why you have been given it for fibroids. I also had to have a hystroectomy due to fibroids.

I will say, lupron did a number on my body. I gained about 20lbs on it:(

Honestly, for me, I would never ever go back on lupron, not only the weight gain, but the hot flashes and moodiness and all the other crazy side effects are not worth it for me!

My 18 year old daughter has gotten lupron shots to help cure her menstrual problems. She got a shot for three months, then the last shot was a three month shot. The only thing she has noticed is that she gets hot and she thinks it is inteferring with her sleep. She has not gained any weight. Matter of fact, she has lost.

Thanks for your response, sorry you had a bad experience with it.. I am really nervous about it.. I already suffer with severe PMS,, I can't even begin to imagine how I might be in menopause...
