Burning more calories as you work out

I have a question about making your body release calories instead of storing them away. If you eat something small and easy to digest as you work out, such as bringing a banana along on a bike ride or rollerblading, and munching on it or some nuts as you go along your route, would your body be more likely to use more calories as it determines it is getting more so why not use up the fat store?

I would like some feed back on this if anyone knows for sure.
