Hi there,

I've been ill with a severe throat infection for about 5 days now (i'm onto my 4th day of non-solids, mushy liquid like foods only). It's extremely hard to swallow, so most of the time my calorie count is just hitting 250ish each of these days.

Of course, this has lead to weight loss (around 2kg so far..) which is great, but I wanted to know if it will all just come back once i get better and start eating more normally again. Is my body in starvation mode now?

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks,
Imogene

  • I just got over the flu and lost about 10 lbs the week I was sick. I've gained 2 lbs back, so it hasn't been terrible. I hope you feel better!
  • wow that's a lot to lose! Hopefully I don't gain too much back :)
  • My friend once joked the week she had the flu was the "best diet ever!" She lost 10 pounds. Another friend was in the hospital for a month and lost nearly 30 pounds. He was severely mad because he is a body builder and had to make sure he put muscle back on. Yes, it mostly comes right back. You're probably losing mostly water and muscle, which is bad.
