What are your fitness goals?

Almost all of us have weight goals (and goals related to the kinds of clothes we'd like to be able to wear!), but I'd really like to know what FITNESS goals keep you going.

Mine are

to get my blood pressure down out of the "med zone" without meds--goal met!
to be able to do a REAL push-up (and then ten)
to be able to jog (not walk) for 30 minutes
to be able to do all of a Turbo Fire HIIT workout without having to take a break
to be able to jump rope
to do awesome jumping/spinning kicks

and long term

to control depression without meds
to age without blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar meds
to avoid knee and/or hip replacement
to retain short term memory into old age by building new brain cells through exercise.

What are your short and long term fitness goals?

To be able to walk back up the 5 flights of stairs in the office after a fire alarm without feeling like my lungs are bursting!

So far I think I reached mine--and I was shocked that I was able to do that---feeling so much younger.

    Short term:
To get under 150 by my birthday (30th on March 2nd! woot!)
Be able to run for more than 1 min.
Be able to do a real pushup (also)

    Long term:
Maintain weight without being consumed by thinking "how many calories is this?"
To do a marathon (walking or running, I don't care)
    To do P90X one day.

Since I was super thin in HS, graduated 120lbs My goal was always to try and add a little muscle every year with no drugs. As I turn 43 my goal changes to maintain the muscle it took me 20 + years to add and maintain a consistent leanness year around. Not used to the consistent leanness, November to February is eat a surplus while lifting to regain summer losses and hopefully add a little muscle.

    Hi, good post!

Return to the right weight, live without the need for blood pressure or cholesterol meds, live longer, be more active...

    Black belt in karate

To wear the 32" waist Levi 501 jeans I rediscovered behind the hot water cylinder, that I wore a few years back :)

For me, I know that if I work hard to be healthy enough to wear those skinnier clothes, the fitness part will come with it. So I'm sticking to those kinds of goals at least for now, because they motivate me more than just those other things right now. It's like if someone gave you a beautifully wrapped present on your birthday and you were hoping beyond hope that it was that jacket you've been dying to get but couldn't fit into until now, but when you opened it, it was just a card saying "Congratulations! Your blood pressure is in a healthy range, now!" I know blood pressure is important, but thats just the bonus to feeling better about myself and having more confidence, at least for me :)
