7k Race - Questions

Hi All!

I have a 7k coming up for Saint Patty's day March 19th. I am very excited - It is a 7k fun run ( I live in Saint Paul, MN ) with 2 huge pub partys after, and an awesome "Get Lucky" black zip up....Anyways, my question is: Is a 7k Much different from a 5k? I know it's over a miles difference, but how different? I know if I can run 3.2 miles I should be able to run 4.5, but I am a little nervous. Any training tips, or race day tips? meals night before? It is a fun run/walk, but I still would like to do my best.

    If you can do a 5K you should be able to handle a 7K. Try once a week running that 7K distance for a workout. You may have to initially drop your pace a bit but it will be OK

    lots of protein and interval training 30-40 mins every 2nd day that will get you ready a lot faster than any long term run.

    You never need to run the actually final distance of the race before race day. The adrealine you will have race day will carry you to the finish. Since the distance isn't too long I wouldn't eat a huge meal like you were running a marathon the next morning. Pasta is always a good idea the night before. There is usually some type of pasta feeds before races or just eat some whole grain pasta just beaware of the sauce as it is loaded with sodium and makes you thirsty. Drink plenty of water and it is also proven you run better with a cup of coffee before a race. Just remember the coffee will make you have to pee so be sure to go before the start.

    Otherwise have fun and always remember to SMILE, ENCOURAGE OTHER RUNNERS AND THANK THE VOLUNTEERS!!!!! This is what I live by during every race and it makes a difference.

    Forgot about the about breakfast. I like to eat eggs and peanut butter toast with coffee before any race, because I get hungry and the protein helps me stay full and the bread is a good carb. hope this helps.

    I've signed up for the same race! My first one. I can almost run 5K now without walking too much. I'm hoping to stretch it too 7K in the next two weeks. Hope I can finish the race. The running sure gives me a bunch more calories to eat!
