Accuracy on nutrition fact of food database

Hey I'm new here but I was curious about the accuracy of the food database. I see that many foods are entered and confirmed by members. I started MFP with an app on my phone and used the barcode scanner tool (very cool!). But a couple of times when I scanned an item the wrong info came up. Examples: wrong flavor of greek yogurt, cottage cheese came up as ricotta, some calories, fat grams, etc. close but not exact. I can take time to change info and re-save but now I'm curious about the incorrect items I haven't noticed.

That's my main reason I stopped "counting" calories on here. It's not completly accurate but it does give you an idea.

I would say nothing is going to be a 100 % accurate...and I think just being accountable for what u are eating helps alot.

yeah there is alot of unaccurate foods out there, its beneficial to know by heart how many cals are in stuff, then when you eanter things in your diary you can see if its wrong..
*I always over guess, its better to be accidentally under than over*

Keep in mind that the entries in the database are from all over the world. Different countries may have different units of measure, different addatives, and different formulations used in manufacture of foods. Different package sizes, different serving sizes or different names on the same product can change information in the database depending on when and where it was entered. There may be different entries, but all of them may be correct. Perdue Chicken has 3 packages that LOOK the same, but are very different in content. Always check the label on what ever you have, they may have changed! There are some that you KNOW are incorrect because there is little to no information given. Correct those. You can always enter your own if needed.
