Hey Everyone,
For all of you doing P90X, are you following the nutrition plan!? I am following it, but not to a tee. I am doing level 1 fat shredder, meal plan, so I'm basically trying to consume 1,800/ day. I am not following the menu he has listed exactly, but I am eating the foods that are listed on it. Do you think that is ok for me to do!?
I also have a question, where do you find soy nuts!? I have been to two different grocery stores, and havent found them yet.
Thanks for your help!
Dara

You should be OK eating like that. I don't follow it to a T cuz I don't like some of the things...Like Soy nuts. I would try a wholefoods store like Trader Joes or what ever is in your town.0

i have been P90X for 12 weeks now , not really following the diet per say either. i have been eating around 1500 to 1800 calories a day as well, and so far i have lost 29 pounds and feel great. Soy nuts i found them in the bulk food section at the grocery store, but i have been eating almonds instead.0

We aren't going by the actual "menu" but sticking to the foods and amounts listed. Even following the guidelines I tend to stay around 1500 calories.0

Ok, thank you! Yeah, I will probably head up to Trader Joes this weekend, and see if they have them. I've been eating the same foods listed, I mean, I'm doing something right, since I feel so much better, stronger, and have lost 4lbs already!0

ok, good to know that i'm not the only one! ha ha! I dont have a food scale, but i'm really watching my portions too!0 -
Your just fine substituting! The nutrition guide is just that...a guide. Substitute for the foods you don’t like or can’t tolerate. The guide is not set in stone. Keep it simple and obtainable.
Stick with *Fruits *Vegetables *Whole Grains *Lean Proteins *Healthy Fats &*Supplements if your not getting all your nutritional needs through food.
Soy nuts are in the health food section of my store not with the nuts. Sometimes also in the bulk section. Trader Joes is a good place and I have seen them at Costco as well.0 -
I'm on my third round of P90X. I follow the nutrition plan in that I stick to their macro-nutrient ratios (Level 2, Phase 3 which is 60%carb 20%pro 20%fat). I try to keep to Michi's ladder of 'approved' foods which you can find on the Team Beachbody website.
No you don't have to follow it to a 'T' but the closer you do, the better your results will be. Also I'd stress to you to eat all your calories and switch to Phase 2 nutrition when you're supposed to in the second month. Don't let the name 'Fat Shredder' convince you this is where you should stay through the whole program. It should really be called 'Getting Rid of All the Sugar and other Refined Carbs Phase' but I guess that doesn't really roll off the tongue as well. Switching to the other Phases will give you more energy to Bring It in the latter half of the program. And that's where you'll see the most results.
I've had great results with P90X and I'm just a regular person. I encourage you to stick with it all the way through to the 90 Days and beyond.
You can look me up over on the team beachbody site. My user name is CartoonChris (I'm a cartoonist and animator as well as a coach).0 -
thank you for all the info! yes, when phase 2 starts i plan on doing that plan too! I'm trying to follow the ratios and all that that is listed on the guide. I have been eating a lot healthier , and watching how much i eat.
Are you supposed to eat your work out calories though?0 -
No, your workout calories are already figured into the equation (see page 4 of your Nutrition Guide).
Also I'd suggest you go over to the beachbody boards and a lot of your questions will actually be answered by the Fitness Staff Experts.0 -
When I followed the P90X nutrition guide to a T, I did the Portion Plan exactly as laid out. I found that the Meal Plan Approach was too expensive with some foods I didn't even like.
One thing I liked about he Portion Plan was the fact that you do not need to count calories. You could come here and see what you are eating calorie-wise, but for the Portion Plan, you just eat the right sized portions of the right foods in the right amounts from their lists. And I lost a ton of weight and inches like that.
Right now I am on Week 7 of P90X as I started over this year. I am not following the plan. I am using MFP to keep my ratios at 40/30/30 which is the "Balanced Slim Down Plan" from the TBB website and I am eating around 1500-1600 calories which is the 1200 MFP allots me plus around 400 exercise calories since my HRM calculates my burn close to 500 a day (I never eat all 500 since at least 75 of those are the basal rate you would have burned anyway in that hour). I've lost almost 6 pounds so far and over 2 inches from my waist. I am down to that "last 10" which will take its time coming off, so I am not worried about losing is slower. As long as it comes off before July (my wedding) I will be good. :bigsmile:0 -

Hmmm.....maybe I should switch to the portion plan?! Is it too late to do that?0 -
It's never too late. I think the different plans amount to the same nutrition, it's just that some people find one plan easier to work with or stick to than the others.0
