What does every one think of NAAFA?

I was reading up about this organisation yesterday - I don't think there is a UK equivalent (yet!) and I felt somewhat saddened by it.
I completely agree size discrimination is wrong and people of every size should be accepted with dignity and equality in all aspects of life.
What I find disturbing is that these fat activists cite the high failure rate of all permanent weight loss attempts (95%), and the many dangers of "yo-yo weight fluctuations" and weight loss surgeries.
They also deny that there are health related problems associated with obesity, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and joint problems caused by overloading the skeleton with too much weight and that obesity reduces life expectancy.

Yes people should be reguardless of their size but hey.....Taking care of ones self is really important....and as far their claim discrimination based on size messes with health...ok that is just silly....we all know that it was the moment that we started taking care of ourselves that life really started being lived....0

I dont agree with discrimination. However as somebody who has "had a weight problem" all of my life, I think anybody that says they are happy being obese is not being honest. And of course there are the health issues that in most cases do not manifest themselves until later life ....0

I strongly agree with you that EVERYONE deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.
But being overweight is NOT healthy, nor should anyone resolve themself to being unable to change their situation.
IMHO, if you really want to lose weight, you will find a way to do it. Even if it takes years, or 30 attempts before you succeed. I think all of us here on MFP are proof of that!
Let's hear it for all the former, and soon to be former, fat people who did NOT accept being fat and unhealthy! We deserve better and we know it! :smooched:
PS - And I think if my butt takes up two seats, yes, it's only fair for me to pay for two seats... :ohwell:0 -
The saddest thing of all is the comments on the forum there, from members who regard their size as something they have absolutely no control over, and who are the recipients of cruel comments from passers-by wherever they go.
For many people, the kind of negativity they experience is the trigger they need to start getting healthy.
But with the fat activists, they get angry at the bigotry but don't seem to understand - or want to accept - that change is achievable. Nobody has to be morbidly obese.
Healthy eating and exercise does work and many of us on here are proof of that.0
