Sorry not sure how to spell it. After having knee pain since last June and having physio which didnt really work, went to the docs last nite and he said I may have this, Going to have an xray and see a knee specialist.
Just wondering how people exercise. No running?

I have "end stage" arthritis is my left knee; which is a fancy way to say my knee joint is pretty much done. I "qualify" for knee replacement surgery. But I don't want it. I am too young, in my opinion to go through the process right now. A knee replacement only lasts approximately 10 years, so being 43 would have me signing up for another one at 53. So instead I am trying to lose weight. My Ortho said every pound of fat lost is worth 4 lbs of pressure on the knee. So losing weight is supposed to help. Since deciding to really lose the weight this time I have become more active.... which leads to lots of pain. I am taking Celebrex which seems to be helping. I am adapting lots of my workout moves so that my knee doesn't give out. You can do this. Just this week I have noticed my knees are not near as sore as they were when I first started working out.... and my legs are actually getting stronger. One of the keys is to increase your muscle tone around your knee joint.
Some of the activities that I do are yoga, light jogging in place, (I do the EA Sports 2 for the Wii almost every day!) lots of walking, even Urban Poling (urbanpoling.com), I would swim, but I don't really enjoy it. Just being active also works. Also using moist heat, like a magic bag on your knee afterwards will also feel very good after a work out.
Good luck. Don't let your arthritis get in the way of you achieving your goals. Unfortunately I did and pretty much lost 10+ years of not doing things because I thought I couldn't. I even signed up for a 10k walk in May, which still surprises me!0 -
Hi thanks for that. Its very frustrating because I was starting to do lunges/squats and running again after not doing those for about 4 months.
I suppose when I find out I will have to go back to doing everything apart from those, but they are the ones I really want to do!!
I have been doing the strengthening which is why they probably dont hurt like they did before so will keep that up. Just very frustrating.
Good luck on your walk!!!
