Depends on your goals.0

Both. They are like comparing an apple and an orange.
I've done both programs. P90X is a weight lifting program. Insanity is all cardio and plyo, no weights. Both are great for shedding body fat and trimming up. If you want more muscle definition, go with P90X. If you're looking for endurance, go with Insanity.0 -
Yes totally depends on your goals. Do you need to lose weight or do you want to tone up? If its losing weight I would go with regular p90, if you want to tone up p90x is awesome. But you dont run on a calorie deficit on there so losing weight is different.0

i agree, apples and oranges. :-) i have done both... insanity is changing my body moreso than P90X did.0

Good topic, but which is better to start with if you are very out of shape and more than 100lbs to lose?0

More than 100 lbs. to lose - you can still use either one. Just modify where you can't keep up and keep at it - eventually you will be able to complete the full workouts and this really true of anyone, regardless of how much weight you have to lose or what kind of shape you are in currently. Same goes true for any other workout in that respect.
With regard to the differences, P90X does incorporate strength training three days per week which requires additional equipment such as dumbbells or resistance bands. The bands are pretty cheap, although personally, I prefer using weights. The other days of the week are cardio, core and stretching/yoga routines.
Insanity is much like PE class (according to my daughter, who loves Insanity) using only your bodyweight, no additional equipment is needed. You have basketball type jumping drills, football drills, squat thrusts, push ups, etc. It can be hard on the knees.
Another good Beachbody workout that incorporates weights and cardio is ChaLEAN Extreme. My daughter and I do this program together. It also requires weights or resistance bands. There is weight training three times per week and cardio intervals the other days.
Hope this helps!0 -
P90X has 3 different versions you can do; classic, lean, and doubles. Classic I believe is more for developing muscles, lean is more cardio based and doubles give you that extra cardio along with classic.
I was on my 2nd week of the lean version, but now I have to hold off due to a car accident this past Sunday. Once I'm better I'm going to restart and consider whether or not I want to invest in Insanity or Rev Abs (which I've heard good reviews on also).0 -
Do they sell them in stores OR would i gave to order it??0

This is really a common misconception that you have to be already fit to do one of these programs. There are lots of workouts that are hard in the beginning, especially if you aren't used to doing them. And, if you watch the people in the video who ARE already fit - they have to take breaks too. In fact, in the Pure Cardio DVD, Shaun T the instructor is even laying on the floor out of breath at the end of it. Just do as much as you can and keep going! When you find you can't hang - walk around to keep moving then jump back in when you can!
Sure it's tough - and you can definitely say that you had a good workout afterward!0 -
My body just cannot do some of the positions AT ALL so I feel like I'm not moving enough waiting for something else I can actually attempt. The last 4 exercises in the fitness test for eg I just couldn't even do them at all. I tried, but failed big time. I think I'm best trying it again once I've lost another 10kg or so.0

Doing P90X now and want to do Insanity when I am finished. My husband and I really wanted to tone up and get some muscle definition.0

I'm about 2/3 of the way through P90X Lean and I highly recommend it for people that aren't really in good shape. I found a recommendation to spend a week doing the stretching and what you can do of the yoga for a week before starting the actual program. I did that and didn't get very sore when I finally started. I have Insanity also but I'm debating on doing that or doing a round of P90X classic first. Whether you can fully do the exercises of either series of dvds, if your heart is in it and you want to succeed, you'll do well no matter which one you choose to do, just keep moving and do your best!0

I love both programs! You will lose a lot of body fat doing either one as stated before, but if you are looking to gain muscle then you need P90X.
I have personally enjoyed a hybrid program incorporating the Insanity cardio workouts into the P90X Classic program. My CV health was never better after finishing that monster program!0 -
