For my son...

Hello all. I joined MFP several weeks ago when I started a 12 week shape up contest at my gym. I have been working out at the gym for about a year and a half and dropped about 15 lbs but have been maintaining right around 195-200. For my height, I know that is too much, but I do feel a lot better and know that I am in much better physical condition, regardless of my weight and body fat %. But this 12 week challenge really made me look at things a little different and excited to be working out again. I do enjoy working out, but having a real goal makes all the difference. I say real goal as opposed to, "I just want to be healthier and lose a few pounds". That might work to get me into the gym but not on a day to day and meal to meal basis.
I have a 4 year old son who has cerebral palsy. He cant walk at all and we live in a split level house, so he gets carried up and down the stairs a lot. I really started working out to be in better shape to be able to take care of him and also work out some aggression, I love the boxing and kickboxing classes. But in the few weeks since the challenge started I have really taken a closer look at my eating habits and MFP has really helped. I've been consistently down 2 pounds a week since the start and hope to continue to drop pounds and body fat. BF% started at 27% and i'm down to 24% in 5 weeks.
Even though I don't have as far to go as some people, to me, my good health is crucial to my son's well being which means the world to me. But I am also doing this for me, as many others are. I love tattoos and have several on my arms and upper body. I would like to lift my shirt and show them off without being concerned about my love handles falling out.
If anyone else does similar workouts and/or dieting, I'd love to share this experience. Drop me a line!

Welcome Jeff! You sound like an amazing Dad! Everyone has their own inspiration, but what is more powerful than our children?! When I joined MFP a year ago my son was a year old. I decided that becoming a better and healthier person would also make me a better Mom to the person I love the most in this world. Some days I think "ONLY 31lbs in a year"... other days I think "31 POUNDS!! WOO HOO!!" There is no yo-yo ... it's a slow and steady loss... I'll take it. It's still a loss. The food log definitly makes a huge difference. It's eye openning. And the support of my MFP Peeps is invaluable! I love it here! Feel free to add me if you need another Peep!0
