Okay I purchased a HRM today. I was not able to get the best but I hope this will do. I walked for 60 minutes today as fast as I could and it said I burned 413 calories. Does this sound right? It is a little high compared to the walking already in the database? I checked my heart rate on the monitor and it was staying around 158. My mother n law (nurse) checked my heart rate also and it matched my HRM.....only off by 1-2. I did notice that is was off by 8-9 minutes after I was done walking?????

HRM's with the chest strap are much more accurate.

I have the one that comes with a chest strap and for an hour of walking it ranges from 400-500 cals depending on the heart rate.

Mine just came in today too and my number was above the MFP estimate too. I believe that it is accurate as I have researched calorie burns on other sites where they let me input inclines, exact speed, etc. for my treadmill. Mine does have a chest strap though. Good luck and congrats on the burn either way! :)
  • Probably so but this is the best I can do for now. I looked at several and they were very pricey!! I could afford this one and was hoping it would work?

I am sure it does! I encourage you to check burns on some other websites and see if your HRM reading seems comparable and validate your reading! Were you on a treadmill? If not, do you know the distance you went? (I use google earth to map distances- go to tools, path, then drag your mouse around the route. You can measure in ft or miles, but feet is more accurate. ps 5280 ft in a mile:) ) Good luck!
  • Acknan......I was outside walking about 3 miles. It was too pretty to be inside today...lol. We measured around our 6 acres and 4 laps around a spot I picked out was 1 mile.

I think that sounds about right then... I don't really know for sure, but I imagine that is about right. Congrats!
  • Thank you all!!!
