Ideas for chocolate chips in recipes...?

I am going to make a healthified version of deceptively delicious's chocolate chip cookies (if anyone wants the recipe, let me know!)

My substitutions are going to be mashed bananas for the butter (with some canola oil), fructose or honey in place of the sugar, whole wheat pastry flour in place of the all purpose flour, but then I get stuck on the chocolate chips. My options now are to buy the mini chips and cut the amount in half, replace them with raisins, or add some cocoa powder to the mix and hope for the best.

Any other ideas?? What is the healthiest chocolate chip at the grocery store (limited to walmart or as sadly the closest whole foods market is an hour away)

Anything would help, including your favorite healthy cookies (preferably no
added sweeteners!) thanks :)

    Here's my favorite recipe:

    1 bag dark chocolate chips
    1 bottle Port Wine

Alternate small handfuls of chocolate chips with sips of Port.

**Note -- a very good Sinlge Barrel Bourbon can be substituted for the Port.

I've found that replacing bananas instead of oil/butter that you need far less sugar/sweet (if any!)

I'd suggest cutting out the sweet source and cut up some high quality dark chocolate and use those as chips.

Haha RoadDog--good answer. To OP--Do you really HAVE to replace everything? Sounds like you've already made some big substitutions, and there's really no replacement for delicious chocolate chips. Maybe just use a few less, but I wouldn't eliminate them. Let us know how they turn out!

Use Dark Chocolate Chips...they are healthier for our hearts than Milk Chocolate. As long as you only eat one cookie or maybe two at the most each day, the amount of dark chocolate would be more of a benefit than hindering your health in my opinion.

Keep 'em in! You have already healthified a LOT. If you insist, sub them for carob chips which are quite a bit healthier (edit: the powder - not the chips - is fat-free) but a bit higher in calories...

I'd say leave out the dried fruit, it's crazy high in sugar and there's already loads in the cookies presumably.

Thanks ladybu6205. I think I will look for some dark chocolate chips to use.
