I have asked a few people at my gym what the best way to burn fat is, and I have gotten different answers. Some say cardio, others say weights, and still others say a mix of both.

I want to burn fat around my mid-section...what can I do?

Right now I'm hitting the gym 3 times a week and I always start with 10-12 mins on the elliptical then do some machines, switching between upper and lower body. I.E. Monday was legs, Wednesday was arms, today will be legs. And then I finish with a 10 min. cool down on a stationary bike or the tredmill.

I have always had a little extra fat around my tummy, and I know that it will take time to lose the weight that I have gained, I just want to make sure that I'm on the right track.

I have the same issue and I look forward to some of the answers you get!
  • There are three rules to weight loss.

    1) Eat less
    2) See how fast you can cover 2 to 3 miles (bike, run, whatever)
    3) Lift heavy objects

Do those three things consistenly, regularly, and you will lose weight.

    Everything else is optimization.

So the answer to your question of "What is the best exercise", the answer is the ones you will stick with. Only YOU can know that.

Hi well I'm 45 yrs old and it only gets worse with age lol. For me abdominal exercises or crunches help big time and drinking lots of water helps get rid of that belly fat. I just started back on my diet Monday , only drinking water and have already lost 3 lbs and have a noticeable difference in my tummy.

The information that I have gotten from my gym is start with strength training which is about 30-45 mins then I move to the treadmill. With doing the strength training your body is in fat burning mode when you get to the treadmill. After that I do a 5-10 min cool down. That is the information that I have gotten and I have seent he results....This is just my first week.

You can't lose weight from any specific area. You can lose weight overall and let your body take it off where it will. That being said, you can tone certain areas, so that when your diet/cardio/exercise pays off, the area under the fat emerges looking better than ever.
