***Getfitdiva's disclaimer - I am not an expert but I do know what works for me. This is purely to share my personal challenge and maybe for you to figure out what will push you to your goal.***
A brief statement about me: I'm a 33 yr old wife and mother of 2, working full time, and work part-time with my own company. My husband and kids support me tremendously and they know I'm determined to reach my goal. The good thing about me is that I love to workout and stopped making excuses about not having time for myself (weight loss is a personal and mental commitment to yourself!). The bad thing is over the past 5 yrs I have fluctuated in weight by gaining then losing then gaining then losing. My goal is to get healthy, reach my goal weight, and maintain by making healthier food choices (avoiding temptations) and staying active. YOUR FOOD CHOICES WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR SUCCESS (I've learned the hard way).
Enough about me! I know I'm crazy to put this challenge on me, but I do not have a personal trainer sooooo I am my own personal trainer. Here is what I think about the 30 Day Shred since it's such a popular topic on MFP. I love how short the workouts are and you can fit it in anytime of the day. Do you deserve 25 minutes a day to get a great and efficient workout? I know I do.
My Saturday Challenge was to burn at least 2000 calories, complete all 3 levels of the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD workouts (using 5 lb weights), and include interval (4.0-7.5 speed) running before, in between, and after each level (equalled to 5 miles total). After lots of water and sweat this is what I came up with.
Level 1: I haven't done this in a while but the strength exercises are amazing. My favorite move is the squats and pushing the weights up to make your shoulders look fabulous and burn! The cardio sections are basic and bring it back to the old school jumping jacks, jump rope, and butt kicks.
Level 2: I always think this is the most challenging level out of all three for some reason. The v-raises always kick my butt but I'm determined to get these! My favorite move are the oblique twists.
Level 3: My favorite level for some reason. It's just the right amount of challenge if I really push myself. My favorite move is the jumping lunges because I could never do these when I completed the shred in 2009. I also love ending the last cardio circuit with rock star jumps.
Overall I love how JM throws in some ab work because if she didn't put it in I probably wouldn't do it!
WOW WHAT AN INCREDIBLE CHALLENGE THIS WAS FOR ME TODAY. JUST WHAT I NEEED TO SHOCK MY BODY. I burned 2083 calories after my challenge and I'm pretty excited with my upcoming weigh-in on Tuesday.
If you combine the 30-Day Shred with cardio exercises you will see results in lbs, inches, and strength.
