Family-friendly things to do in Boston?

Options
When we go on our family camping trip in the fall we will be coming back through Boston. I've checked Yahoo Travel and got the Massachusetts visitor guide for things to do, but I was wondering what someone from the area would recommend. We are on a budget so I don't want to waste money on tourist attractions unless they are actually worth the money. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Ali!

    My kids are 11, 9, 7, 4, 2

Historical, outdoors, educational, military - really anything would be great, well except shopping.

You don't have to spend time getting all the info on the places. I can do that if you get me started in the right direction. There were lots of interesting looking things. I just didn't know if they were hyped up or if they were really worth it. Thanks again.

My fathers from Boston. When I was 11, we went to Boston for vacation for the first time. We were up there for a week. He was so thrilled to show me his hometown.

The childrens museum was a highlight and I have heard in the years it has just got better .

I also loved the swan boats. Its even more fun if your kids are familiar with the book "Make Way For Ducklings"

I am a bit nerdy so I really liked the history tours , but some kids wouldnt like it as much. Its a lot of walking, not sure with the little ones.

    This tour was neat too
