P90X Question

So I have just started this journey and I'm curious about P90X because everyone talks about it.
Is it too tough for a beginner that is very over-weight (need to lose 100 lbs) as well as not the most coordinated. Right now I'm doing Wii Zumba Fitness and Wii Just Dance for exercise and I love it but want to make sure that I stay challenging myself.

Congrats on embarking on this wonderful journey! I would start out with the Lean phase that incorporates more cardio than strength. You can do that for 1-2 months then switch to Classic.0

I'm in my 4th round of P90X and from experience anyone can do it. The key is to modify it to work for you! It is an intense workout and listen to your body. If you can't make it thourgh each exercise or even each video don't get discouraged because eventually you will be able to do it all!0

Do the Classic program and just modify the exercises and shown on the DVD's. Follow the nutrition plan and get in the best shape of your life!!!0

I started p90x last November, at that point I had lost about 30 pounds of the 73 total that I need to lose. I still can't do 100% of the exercises, I'm getting there though. Depending on your personal strength, you may be frustrated that you can't do a lot of the exercises, maybe you can, maybe you can't, I don't know you. But if you are really overweight, you may need to lose some weight first then start p90x later. I had to do that. It is a great fitness series, but I don't think it is a great weight loss program, I see it as a complement to cardio sports like running. It's a strength training program, not a cardio program. I find swimming, biking and running to be better weight loss programs. Hope this helps you. Good luck!0

My husband and I are doing P90X right now. It is not too hard for a beginner if you are willing to "do your best and forget the rest" as Tony Horton says. There are plenty of people who have done P90X when they have 100 plus pounds to lose. It really depends on your mindset. Will you be so discouraged that you can't do what the people on the video are doing that you will give up? Can you accept yourself where you are right now and count each small increment of improvement as progress? Know that you will likely have to do several rounds of P90X to get the maximum results that you see in before and after pictures of others who started with less to lose.
You really have to know yourself. I am glad I did ChaLEAN Extreme before doing P90X. I find Chalene Johnson to be much more instructional than Tony Horton and since I had little clue about how to lift weight properly, I needed her way of teaching. Because of it, I find P90X to be much less intimidating than all the hype makes it out to be. There are lots of Beachbody programs out there, so don't feel like you have to start with P90X to get great results.0 -
I started the P90X program last May when I had 82 pounds to lose. I wasn't able to do 100% of the workouts, but did the best I could and still saw some results. Definitely can use the modifications to customize to your physical capability.
If you're really nervous about it, try out the P90 program. I did that several years ago and still saw great results.0 -
Can you pass the fitness test that p90x recommends before you start? I find p90x very challenging and I am pretty fit. I don't know if it was the one I would jump for if I had 100 lbs to lose. I think it could potentially be dangerous for someone that isn't ready for it physically. Also in the beachbody program that sells p90x is the workout SLIM IN 6. I would start with these set of workouts as they are less challenging than p90x. Slim in 6 is a great workout that I started before I felt I was prepared for p90x.0
