Losing weight too fast?

I think I am. And I am trying to figure out why i am because im pretty much on my calorie target to lose 1lb a week. Instead I seem to be losing 2lbs.

So I have a couple theories:

My alcohol intake at weekends shoots me 2000+ calories over on fri/sat. I then compensate during the week by excercising more and eating less. So theory no1 is that alcohol calories are not equal to food calories (as they are not converted into fat easily). This means i am overcompensating during the week.

Theory 2: I drink 2 cups of coffee and about 2-3 green teas a day. I also take a metaboliser pill in the mornings. The extra calories burnt from this is not taken into account. Could be 100-150 a day . If we add post-excercise burn which is also not taken into account, we could reach an extra 200 calories a day. That's 1400 a week! Or pretty close to half a pound of fat a week.

Anyone else go nagging feelings on this subject?

    haha - sorry

I didn't think! Apart from writing the most boring post in the world, i've inadvertently made people a bit insecure about their weight loss!

When i step on the scales, i've gone from delight to a slightly worried "Gosh!". I am pretty thin now and still losing weight at a fast pace. I started 7 weeks ago and have lost 8k (17lbs) in that time. I just want to know if it's happeneing to others and if there's a common cause I haven't figured out yet!

Well, first of all, men usually lose weight faster than women. Especially at first. Your metabolism is just higher. My dr says that 2 pounds a week is healthy as long as you feel energetic and healthy, so I wouldn't be overly concerned. And when you first start losing, it comes off faster, then eventually slows down. I'm at the beginning and have lost 3 pounds this week, but I've changed my lifestyle to pescatarian (fish eating veggie), therefore my fiber intake is through the roof. I've also made it a major priority to get my water in every day. So, all in all, don't worry, as long as you feel good!

I understand the fear. Don't feel bad for posting it. I had the same thoughts. The whole 'If I lose it this fast, I will gain it back just as fast. Something isn't right and I want to make this a good change.'

I am inspired to keep going with so many great inspirational stories in here! I am also relieved when I see people are going through the same things I am. I don't use the pills, but I do tend to over compensate when I drink, or over do it on my calories. With the way we chart it in here it makes us so very aware of what we are doing. I love it!

Keep up the good work. :flowerforyou:

I would not think worry about it! Your doing great and just burning more calories than you realize.
  • Congratulations on the weight loss...but if you continue losing fast I would go to the Doctor and have it checked out...If anything just to ease your mind

I've been at this since 4th january and lost 20lbs (7weeks). Weight loss is definitely faster at the beginning, I reckon it will slow down though. A lot of it is water retention and I also think the big change of being on a diet causes you to loose a lot, as your body gets used to it you will loose less. I think thats why its so easy to loose weight and then put it back on again (which I do a lot cause I'm rubbish at sticking out a diet for a long time).

Well done on the weight loss and keep going - don't worry just be happy :)

I think its just such a change for our bodies, change in the amount of water alone is a shock I bet not to mention the change in the types of food I eat now, I wouldn't eat as mush fruit and veggies that I do now
  • don't think 2lbs is too fast, I lost 17lbs in 6 weeks an well happy about it ;-)
if your trying not to lose anymore just up the food intake a bit.
well done on the weight loss
