...more questions on the Paleo Diet....

Does anybody do the Paleo Diet? I am almost finished with the book, by Loren Cordain. I agree with so much of what he says (lots of fruit & veggies, lots of lean protein, Omega 3s, etc.)....but I struggle with the part about beans and legumes, and yogurt. My question is: if I am following this eating plan, but including a serving of black beans and/or Greek yogurt each day will that affect my results?
I know that Paleolithic people didn't harvest beens or ferment yogurt, but both offer so many health benefits that I hate to give them up! After years of reading every "new" idea on weight loss, I am finally thinking that I can do bits and pieces from many different plans. I don't necessarily have to strictly follow someone else's idea of the perfect diet.....Any thoughts?

I dont follow Paleo myself, as I am a pescatarian, but I know quite a few people who do it. Theres only 2 that I know that follow it strictly, the others seem to incorporate a few other foods to make it easier and more enjoyable for them. So add some beans and yogurt if thats what you want....dont go overboard with it, but have them now and then. I dont think it will affect your results at all.0

Thanks Alynn.....I don't know anyone else who has followed this diet really strictly. I know that text says that fiber isn't an issue, and regularity won't be either. Having had some trouble with constipation (sorry if that's TMI), I focus on getting lots of fiber each day. Fiber One cereal and black beans have been a couple of mainstays in my diet. (I now eat the Fiber One in plain non-fat Greek yogurt, to increase my protein too.)0

For the most part I have been following Paleo Strictly.
Today however I made brown rice and black beans simmered in the juice from a chuck roast I made in the crock pot. I also made collard greens which comprised about 2/3 of my plate, then had a spoonful of the rice and beans and some meat.
I do eat Fage Full Fat greek yogurt one or 2 times a week with some berries.
I have been focusing on fats, protein and vegetables and have been averaging about .8 pound loss per day and feel GREAT!!!
I haven't read the Loren Cordain book, I read The Primal Blue Print by Mark Sisson. He goes with the 80 / 20 rule.0 -
How long have you been doing the diet, Grokette? I have been eating this way for about a week and a half to two weeks.....My weight has been up and down 2-3 lbs. in that time. I'm hoping it will start dropping SOON!0

Well, I have been on Atkins since 2003 to control blood sugar levels and last year my doctor recommended Paleo because I have gluten allergies.
This way of eating allows me to control blood sugars with no medications at all. And in the few months that I have been doing Paleo I am almost off Thyroid medications. My body is healing itself through eating whole and natural foods and that in itself is great!! The weight loss is an added benefit for me.
So Paleo eating is very similar to Atkins, except for Atkins allows for beans, grains, lentils, and dairy. Paleo doesn't.
Today I ate more like Atkins style for something different and my stomach is grumbling from the brown rice.
Some people start losing with in the first few days and others it takes up to a month. Let your body adjust to the new way of eating and detoxing and you will start losing soon.
Drink lots of water and green tea too.0 -
You don't look like you have much to lose, so your body is most likely focusing on becoming more healthy!!
By the way, I love your tattoo. I have 9 myself.0
