I eat bread almost everyday, but its not white, its whole grain and really good for you. Anyways, I was reading in a "Womans World" magazine, and it said that by staying away from grain, flour, fruit, and some other stuff, your body will not get a blood sugar spike and youll loose weight. I do not really need to loose alot of weight, maybe just 2-4 pounds, and I have been exercising hard to tone up, but I think that because I eat alot of bread and fruit that this may be happening to me and I am not seeming the results I want. I dont want to be paranoid about it, but is that really true?

i replied to a post about someone's question about carbs last night... and well, i'm not an expert. but! my favorite foods are carbohydrates and i find if i cut them out completely i crave them so much and then just want to binge on them after a week! if you want to cut back to see if that affects your weight, by all means, go ahead. but make sure you're still getting your daily caloric needs.0

Cutting back on carbs isnt bad but just remember if you want to keep off those pounds you have to keep those carbs at the same amount. Once you get off your "carb diet" you will notice an immediate gain, so keep in mind how much and how many you would like to get rid of.:flowerforyou:0

Simple answer: no. It isn't true. Remember, this is "Woman's World" magazine, not a medical journal. Only go on the diet that you can maintain the rest of your life. :happy:0 -
I read the same thing - remember the Aktins craze? I tried to swear off all carbs - lasted about 3 hours
Anyways, I am a carb girl all the way. I've learned if I don't have at least 50% of calories from carbs, I feel like crap. That's just me.
But anyways, as far as losing weight - it goes back to calories in and calories out - regardless if it is a carb, protein or fat. Just try to have a healthy variety and balanced diet and exercise.0 -

YOu don't lose weight by avoiding blood sugar spikes--in fact, diabetics with uncontrolled blood sugar levels (or someone not yet diagnosed as diabetic) will have weight loss because their sugar levels are too high. I had lost 30 pounds in the 6 months preceding my diagnosis, and I was doing absolutely nothing to lose weight! In fact, I was eating like crazy because I always felt hungry and out of energy.
A 'normal' non-diabetic person will have a spike after eating carbs, sugar, etc. but then their levels drop almost immediately back to normal. That's how your body is supposed to work.
To advise someone to avoid what is some of the best food for you--whole grains, fruit, etc.--is ridiculous! Your body needs that stuff to gain energy, keep things moving through the body, etc.
I agree with remembering this is not a medical magazine!0 -
This is absolutely NOT true. It is okay to stay away from white carbs, but your body needs the ones provided by fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. If you feel bloated from too much fruit, change over to more vegetables and lower your intake of whole wheat bread. But you should never cut them out completely.
