Couldn't stop eating yesterday - any ideas why??!

I don't tend to do any exercise at the weekends (other than housework/food shopping). But yesterday, I was starving all day and couldn't stop eating. I thought I might be thirsty but it wasn't that as I drank tons of water (6 14oz glasses) and the feeling was still there. I went to bed hungry and woke up hungry despite going 400cals over my allowance
But today, despite doing D1 of the 30 day shred and cycling to work, I don't feel anywhere near as sick-hungry as I did yesterday.
Can anyone tell me why I was so hungry yesterday?? I don't understand it!

I usually have days like this after I lost. My body wants its padding. I do my best to stay as close to the allowance as possible. If I go over, I try to make it up the next day. I think it's your weekly calorie amount that matters anyway.0

Maybe when you feel that hungry just go for a walk around the block... or do a short exercise session to see if you feel better later.. and if not you have burnt a few calories you can then feel more free to eat. Also, do an emotional assessment of your day.. or journal your emotions and hunger for a month... you might find a connection for what you are doing/feeling that then transfers in your brain to hunger....
Either way.. work out today and one day isn't going to affect you so much0 -
I think they say that if you eat lots of protein you'll feel more full. Maybe try to base your meals around protein-based foods (nuts, beans, tofu, and/or lean meats) and see if that helps?0

Sometimes it depends on what foods you are eating. Eating fiber will help fill you up to where you feel full. Have you tried fiber bars or whole grain bars? Also oat meal or raw veggies to snack on help me. Good luck0

I find that all the girls I work with have said that they eat and eat when at the time of the month.
Also when I have a cold I want to eat stodge0 -
When I have the non-stop munchies it's usually related to what I've been eating. If I have carb loaded meals or snacks (any processed snack, bread, potatoes, pasta, too much fruit) I stay hungry even if it's "healthy" carbs.
Add more lean protein to your meal. Not only does the protein help fill you up but it helps restore muscle tissue if you work out much. And when you are pre-period or have started it gives you more iron which you tend to lose while menstrating---lean red meat being the best source for iron.0 -

I second that. Two days before I have ice cream cravings. EVERY TIME!0 -
cheers peeps, all very helpful.
It's weird, I thought I'd be more hungry today especially after sweating through the 1st day of Shred LOL. How bizarre our bodies are!!0 -

Usually when I'm hungry like that it's because I'm either overtired or bored. If I've had a bad night's sleep I feel like I need to eat all day just to keep going, and also I have noticed I eat loads more when I'm sat at my desk all day than I do at weekends when I'm out and about!
If it's just a one off, then I wouldn't worry. If you find this happens to you every so often, start keeping a journal of your mood/eating habits etc - I did this which is what showed me that missing out on sleep was really sabotaging my progress, every Monday I'd be eating like a horse because I'd been out too late all weekend, or I'd eat loads of bad foods if I was feeling down.0 -
I am usually hungry if I don't eat enough the day before. Or if I am bored. I ask myself if broccoli sounds good. If it does then I know I am truly hungry. If it doesn't, then I am bored or stressed.
If I don't get enough sleep that can bring on the munchies for me.0 -
I have three days a month like that . It is two weeks before my Aunt flow arrives. Used to freak me out I thought that my body was rebelling towards my weight loss and wanted to get fat again. Finally when I made the conection of eating 2000 to 2500 calories three days a month is normal for me, I just go with it and know it will pass and I get right back to eating healthy. Plus I should add when on my cycle I eat 800 to 1200 calories for a few days. My usual intake is 1500 to 1700 a day, so it all balances out.
Just remember it will pass you aren't doomed.0 -
What were you eating throughout the day? I have diabetes and my dietician recommends that I eat something every 2-3 hours. I feel like every time I turn around I am eating. If what you are eating is low carb, higher protein I wouldn't be too concerned. Also, are you eating enough fiber? Incorporating fiber into your diet helps eliminate that hungry feeling. My dietician also told me it is better to "graze" throughout the day. I don't have a problem with that! She told me that eating every few hours (around 200-300 calories each time) keeps the blood sugar from spiking and dropping. For me, I know when my blood sugar goes too high (from eating one big meal after going several hours without eating), I crave carbohydrates. I think it is normal for us to have those kind of days though. Try not to be discouraged. I think that going over your calorie limit would be a problem if you were doing it repeatedly on a regular basis. Just pick up where you are and keep moving forward. What's done is done.
I wish you the best of luck.....0
