New to Board

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to the board and am joining with my husband of 13 years, screen name Bluebeard.
My nutritionist recommended this site. Both my DH and I are morbidly obese and have struggled with our weights all of our lives. It is great to be doing this with a spouse but in some ways it is harder as we both seem to fall off the wagon together.
I consider the root issue of our weight problems to be a food addiction. We have both lost massive amounts of weight in our life times only to gain it back each time. The last time I lost 180lb's and my husband lost 150lb's. We managed to keep it off for about a year before starting to gain it back and then some. That effort was done with the support of a 12 step group. I learned many useful things through the 12 step group but ultimately we did not find it to be a long term solution and came to the conclusion that it was not for us. I still however use many of the tools the group gave me.
We are currently pursuing WLS and need to lose weight and make important lifetstyle changes prior to the surgery which we hope to have in six months. We did not come to the decision to have WLS very lightly. I very much grappled with the decision, having been against it for much of my life but have since reconsidered my position.
In a stange twist of fate my husband was laid off on Friday. This means we have to tighten our budget and eliminate all eating out/take out- a very bad habit we had picked up. So we are looking at his lay-off as an odd blessing of sorts that couldn't have been better timed in terms of reforming our food habits.
I am also quitting smoking on Wednesday so I have a tough road ahead of me. But I really like this site, the tools and support it provides and hope it will be helpful to my DH and I on our journey to a long term weight loss solution and lifestyle change.
Thanks for reading.

Wow... it sounds like you both have a long road ahead, but doing it together should only make it that much easier! And to KNOW you can do it, because you've both done it before.... that should be the best motivation!
I wish you the best of luck here on MFP! It has been an awesome tool for me, so I know it will be for you both!0 -
Thanks for your words of support!! I have spent all morning setting up my food plan for the week...never had so much fun working up a food plan before.0
