Don't drink during meals?

I just recently heard that it's not good for you to drink anything during or right after meals. At first I thought the person was joking because I've never heard of that before. But if you Google "don't drink during meals" you'll come up with a bunch of results.

Has anyone tried this and found it beneficial?

I've never heard of that before ( doesn't mean Its not true though)
Usually, when I eat I try to drink water in between bites so that I am taking more time to eat my food and not shoveling it into my mouth.

I've not heard of this, I never drink during meals anyway but usually down a glass of water straight afterwards. How long should I wait?

I've never heard of that outside of for weight-loss surgery patients. My mother has the lap band and it isn't recommended to drink during a meal due to the overfilling of the reduced-sized stomach 'pouch' and can cause vomiting, etc.

In my experience though, if I try to drink more water right before a meal, I tend to eat less since I feel fuller.
  • Supposedly it messes up your digestion somehow but I don't really understand how or why. Search "don't drink during meals" on Google if you want more details. I always drink water during meals and I would have a hard time breaking that habit, plus I would get less water every day, which doesn't sound like a good thing.

I've heard of this, but don't really know the reasons why. The only thing I can think of is that it may leave you feeling full when you haven't really had enough food, or if it's digestion related maybe food digests easier without it :S

I've always drunk with meals and I really would not be able to give this up, I would get far too thirsty and would probably just end up leaving half the food if I tried. I wouldn't worry about it if things are working fine for you how they are, especially since almost everyone has a drink with a meal :)

You can also google drinking enough water during meals, drink water prior to meal, drinking after after a meal, etc. etc. and you'll get results on all of them telling why you should do it. And results on all of them on why you shouldn't.

Basically, there's no hard and fast rules on anything having to do with weight loss and how to do it "right". But I can promise you that whatever you want to do or don't want to do, you will be able to find evidence to support it on the Internet. 100% truth, if you want to be able to justify having a 7,000 calorie cheat day, there is a diet plan that tells you that it's not only okay, but that you should.

This isn't a critique or attack on anyone personally, just more of a general observance/mini rant about the Internet and dieting advice. Sorry it came out in this thread, it just seems like I'm seeing it more and more and it finally snapped me. lol
