Making some changes....

Hey everyone
So I've been struggling with binge-eating the past two years and lately it's just been crazy out-of-control. I've confided in my boyfriend about everything and with his help, hopefully I can finally overcome this. In the past I've tried different things... giving myself freedom to eat anything I want, putting myself on a really strict diet, etc. but nothing has really worked because ultimately I just have a really tough time holding myself accountable.
My biggest problem is bingeing on carbs at night, so I'm not going to keep any cereal/pretzels/ice cream/chocolate etc. in my room and I'm not going to make any trips to the vending machine (something I'm guilty of doing A LOT lately). If I don't have it in my room I can't eat it. I just need to get beyond the point where I don't crave these foods anymore, then my hope is that I'll be able to start trusting myself around them again. Also, pizza is one of my biggest vices and it's something I ALWAYS end up eating far too much of. So... my boyfriend's suggestion was pizza once every two weeks (I eat it pretty often as of now, I AM a college student, ha) and he also suggest having a sweet treat like a cookie or ice cream only once or twice a week.
I've gained some weight from bingeing this year and I do want to get that off, but as of now, my main goal is just to curb the binges. Hopefully once that happens the weight will start to drop off on its own. Any tips for holding myself accountable to this? My boyfriend did say it's okay for me to text or call when I get a craving or an urge to buy something I know I shouldn't be eating. Thanks for the thoughts/support!

Always come here, you will find many others struggling with this problem. You can write about it or just read about it. It is a tough battle, one you can definitely win, I think.:flowerforyou:0

i have to say though i have never understood why folks are always talking about giving up pizza... i still have pizza, usually once a week *L*.. i just make my own now .. one individual pizza on whole wheat naan bread or pita, sodium free tomato sauce, lotsa veg, a lil sprinkle of parm or mozzarella (just not the fistfuls i used to have *L*.. some italian seasoning sprinkled on, .. heck i even have pepperoni on it! (butterball sliced turkey pepperoni.. awesome stuff!!!)
go without pizza? me? noooooo way *L*
(edited to add fresh pineapple chunks and sliced black olives too.. i go without nothing *LOL*)0 -
My way to keep myself from overindulging...
I eat every 3-4 hours. I do eat a piece of chocolate or some peanut butter, or something else with healthy unsaturated fat. Those healthy fats also help keep you full.
My advice, is simple.
1. Eat regularly, meaning eat at regular times throughout the day.
2. Start logging your food here in your food journal.
3. Start measuring out a serving and then putting it away. I know that can be a bit hard in college cafeteria, but do it whenever you can.
After doing this for a week or 2 you will start to get used to it! I used to binge too... especially at night. I found that just thinking about what I wanted for myself and my body helped me to stop eating the extra food. You can do this!0 -
I've had somewhat of an addiction to sugar, and if I can somehow get through 4 days without it, I don't crave it anymore. Then I try to work just a little bit back in once in a while, because if I totally deny myself, I'll go crazy and eat everything I can get my hands on. It's great that you've got a support system in your boyfriend- you'll find lots of support on here too! Good luck!0

As much as I wish I could make my own pizza I live in a college dorm and I'm on a meal plan so that's not really possible
my friends and I usually end up ordering pizza and then I just end up eating way too much. Thanks for all the fast responses!
