Sports bra/running shoe recommendation

Hi Everyone,
I have agreed to sign up for a 5K clinic at the running room with my best friend (scared but very excited. It will push me out of my comfort zone!). It starts March 17 and I need to get a good sports bra...anyone have a recommendation for me. I'm prepared to invest some money in it but I have no idea of what's out there. Normally when exercising I am wearing a tight bra and put a sports bra over it. I don't want to have to do that as it can be slightly uncomfortable. I would love some suggestions...thanks!
As well, new shoes are on the list. I had back surgery and few years back and I have nerve damage in my left leg so I really have to wear wrong shoes with good cushioning. My last 2 pairs have been Saucony and Salomon (I find this pair very comfortable!) and I was thinking I may stay within these brands and see whats available...any thoughts?
Thanks! Carrie

I got this sports bra recently and love it. I'm a 48 DD (I ordered a D, the cup size was said to run big) and so far it's keeping the girls at bay!

I'd go to a running store, do the treadmill test, talk to them about your back and have them fit you for running shoes.
I just did it about a week ago and it was seriously the best thing I've done thus far for weight loss/running. Before my heels used to throb day and night, after just wearing the shoes for an hour and a half the hurt was gone.0 -
I love my asics gel kayano.. the 16's are on sale on zappos right now (the 17 is the latest version of the shoe)0

If you have a Title 9 sports where you live, they're the best for sports bras. Lots to choose from and really helpful staff. I have (and love) the 3 Reasons Support Sports Bra and the 7 Wonders Sports Bra. Both are great.
Even if you don't have a physical store, go to the website (http://www.titlenine.com/). They have great tips on how to determine your bra size and which bras are best for different sports.0 -
Moving Comfort - ordered mine on line after trying various ones on in the store and couldn't find the right fit (am larger busted).
As for shoes...I would recommend going to a store that specializes in running shoes and being fitted. Here we have Fleet Feet. A GOOD pair of shoes is essential to help prevent injuries, not that you still can't get injured with good shoes.0 -
This is my favorite sports bra http://www.championusa.com/Champion/Products/Women-Champion/Women_ShopByCategory-Champion/Women_SportsBrasSale-Champion/CH072.aspx
The best part is that it is on sale right now!
I too used to wear two bras to keep the girls contained. My friend had reduction surgery and gifted me her newish sports bra. I LOVE it!! I have ordered another and will order one more and get rid of all my old sports bras!
Good luck!0 -
If you are larger my oldest, and I've heard others, claim that Enell is the very best sports bra to keep the girls in check. She got hers online. It's been just like new for a few years.0

Go to a running store and get fitted for a shoe. It makes such a big difference!0

I would recommend you go to the Running-room and get them to fit you for a good pair of shoes...they see what your running gait is like etc...and then they make suggestions...you don't have to buy from there, just remember which ones they recommended!!!!
I did this and I found the shoes they picked were amazing. I'm gonna do it again for sure.
As for the bra...I will have to check on the one that I have...it's really good. Supportive and comfy.0 -
I would definitely recommend that you go to a running store to get fitted for the right shoes, and I'm sure they can help fit your for a bra, as well. I'm still looking for bras, but I went to Fleet Feet last week and they were super helpful. They are ordering a few styles for me to try out next week at a bra "wear and run" so I can see which works the best. I also got fitted for some new shoes, and picked the most comfortable pair of Asics I have ever worn in my life. They make my workouts much more enjoyable, since I don't have to worry about heel pain anymore.
Good luck!0 -
I love my Moving Comfort - Fiona bra. Had no idea how much the girls were getting in the way of a real workout.0

Thanks for all of the great advice...I definitely have some research to do.

So I really need some help with bras. I wear a 38FF bra. And for workouts I wear 3 bra. So can anyone help?0

In the light of your back surgery I would seek out a good sports podiatrist, to get your gait assessed. Take your old shoes with you so he can see their tread wear.
He will be able to help you identify shoes that will provide you with enough impact protection for your back, yet are suitable for your legs/foot's mechanics.
If I were a high risk runner (which I would say you are after back surgery), I would never buy a shoe just on internet folks recommendations, online purchase or general sports shop purchase.
I would take every possible measure to ensure I purchase the right shoe and I think a pro assessment will serve you much better in keeping you injury free.0 -
I love my asics gel kayano.. the 16's are on sale on zappos right now (the 17 is the latest version of the shoe)
And if she is not at least a moderate pronator you have just suggested a shoe that would have her injured within months!!
The Kayano is a great shoe, for those with significant support needs. But you don't know if that's the case here.0 -

The asics kayanos are a great shoe however they are designed for people who roll inwards. If this is not you the Asics Nimbus is what you're after.0 -
In addition to all the great advice you've gotten on shoes and bras, I'd HIGHLY recommend picking up a small stick of BodyGlide! It prevents chafing very well. You may not need it until you start running longer distances, but if you're losing weight, the new sports bras are going to get slightly loose before you're ready to buy new ones. When the bras are a little loose, they'll rub against your skin a little while you're running; the BodyGlide will keep them from rubbing your skin raw.0

Not to sound like a broken record, but please go to a running store (not a sporting goods store) and get fitted for shoes. It will make all the difference in the world! As for bras, don't be afraid to try some on and bounce around A LOT in the fitting room. I am excited for you and your 5K training. You will amaze yourself!0
