Struggling to first 10 min of exercise?

Ok I have been using the Wii Active 2 for 10 weeks now 5 to 6 days a week on the hard setting. I also horse back ride 5 days a week for an hour.
The past week I have been struggling to get through the first 10 min of the Active 2 work out. I do the warm ups and lately the first 2 cardio exercises have been running. It just about kills me, my legs burn and ache and I can push myself through it. After the first 10 minutes though I'm fine and can continue the work out without a problem.
Can anyone shed some light on what is going on? My food diary is public. I don't always log weekends because I don't always get on the computer and I don't log water but I drink 3 to 4 litres a day (100 to 135oz)
I get the normal soreness from exercises but nothing that stops me from moving around or exercising the next day.

Hmm...could be muscle fatigue. Just a stab in the dark... maybe you're not giving yourself enough rest time to "heal" and so until you're really good and warmed up, you're feeling it more. Hopefully others can shed more specific light on this for you.0

go on line and see if you can find foods or nutrients that help deal with lactic acid. It sounds like you are not depleting it quick enough but once warm you're fine. Lactic acid it a product of anaerobic muscle respiration. you may also be starting to hard and not giving your leg muscles time to clear the acids as it's produced but you catch up later.0

Are the exercises you're doing now different to what you were doing before? Was there much running involved previously? If not, it may just be that your legs are not used to the exercise and are getting tired quickly.
I also find that I get "better" a few minutes into exercising. If I'm doing a circuit based workout my second circuit is generally much better than my first.0 -
Lisa- the order of exercises has changed and the running has gotten longer. Just about killed me today with running... I hate running :grumble: but it burns the calories and will get rid of the love handle that are hanging around. :ohwell: So that could be it.
Will look into Lactic acid helping foods as well to see if that helps.0 -

Funny you mention this - I looked this up a few weeks ago because I just generally wanted to know about this interaction and where potassium fit in and all that and it turns out that the relationship between lactic acid and sore muscles is not at all significant. If I remember right, the most recent studies were suggesting that any release would be reabsorbed or dispelled within an hour or two.. or something like that and so could not be at all responsible for muscular discomfort due to exercise.
Dang, I wish I'd kept the links for those articles so I could better cite them and provide you with those links... :-( I shouldn't think the info would be too terribly hard to find though. I don't think it took me long. DANG DANG DANG... I also wish I could remember more of the specifics..... grrr! Oh well...0 -
muth3fluvx2- I just googled it :flowerforyou: I found heaps on lactic acid and yep your right it has nothing to do with being sore afterwards. Just the burn during.
I will see how my muscles go the rest of the week. Maybe its the increased running....or i can be hopeful and the burning ache i get is the fat melting off my muscles hahahaha0 -
This happens to me on the treadmill. The first 7 minutes are torture but after that if I stick with it I get a major energy boost and can go much longer. Not really sure why. Maybe its my muscles protesting lol0

Hi Lisa, I also hate running with a passion...I've got slightly dodgy joints/shins which don't take kindly to running, must be the repeated shocks as my feet hit the ground. So...I bought an exercise bike instead! First few times my bum muscles were really sore, but they've got used to it and now I can happily pedal for 30-40 mins on most days without any muscle ache at all. The first 5-8 mins are not that much fun, so I concentrate on some upbeat music, but after that it's not bad at all! Depending on speed, it burns about 10-15 kcals per minute and my thigh muscles are definitely feeling the benefit )0 -

Lactic??? After 10 mins on a Wii fit??? Are you having a laugh???
The normal amount of lactic acid circulating in the blood is about 1 to 2 millimoles/litre of blood. The onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA) occurs between 2 and 4 millimoles/litre of blood. In non athletes this point is about 50% to 60% VO2 max and in trained athletes around 70% to 80% VO2 max.
Believe me this does not happen after 10 mins on a wii fit.
