ok so I find myself changing the chol and sodium in and out each day since we dont have enough room to watch both each day.
I figure with me getting older I should watch the Chol more, but then I see sooo many post about sodium
I currently watch cal, fat, carb, pro, fiber and do check my iron intake every week and view back thru the day since I have a red blood disorder develop after I had gastric bypass. I have had two blood transfusion to help UP my iron
what do you watch?

1) calories 2) protein 3) fiber 4) carbs 5) fat 6) sodium. I used to watch potassium but not enough entries have a correct potassium for it to be useful. I think sodium is good to watch but I don't restrict it until I get over 5000 mg.0

Sodium. I have had my cholesterol checked every other year since I was 28 and never had a problem so I assume it would be even better NOW because I'm actually healthier than I was then. I'm also back to being a vegetarian.
I was SHOCKED at how much sodium I consumed on a daily basis so now I watch it.0 -
I actually dropped the protein from mine since I never have a problem with that one. That way I can watch both Chol and sodium, though I find sodium is very difficult to keep below the RDA. Way to many foods have a ton of salt in them. I have taken to making my own refried beans and more just so I can cut the salt out of them. I am starting to think that processed foods are the reason I am on blood pressure meds. We will see when I get my blood work done in April how much my numbers change. I plan to be down over 30 lbs by then and with an entirely new diet that start the end of January.0

Sodium. If you have your calories under control, your blood cholesterol will likely be under control. I would suggest fiber as well since high fiber usually mean lower cholesterol since most animal food sources have no fiber. Finally, and I am not sure where I saw it so it may be wrong, but dietary cholesterol has less of an effect on blood cholesterol than how many calories you eat overall. I have to do some digging to find that. I do know that the idea that eggs (which have a lot of cholesterol) raise blood cholesterol is not as true as many would have us think. I need to do some more digging one this I guess.0

I mildly watch sodium. Potassium has been brought to my attention, so I watch that much more.
All the recent research I've stumbled across says that the amount of cholesterol you eat has virtually no impact on your total levels in your body.0 -
thanks everyone..
I have never had chol issue since I did have gastric bypass I know I probably shouldnt worry about it as much since I dont absorb every gram I put in my body b/c I dont have the internal parts now to do so, but I have to watch my protein b/c even based on what this gives Im suppose to get 64 grams a day since I did have the surgery. UGH not easy to do either.
my salt intake I do worry about b/c it makes me hold more water and swell up0
