When is the best time to exercise? Morning or Evening

I am just starting out so I am not going to try and push myself to exercise twice a day just yet. But I would like to get the full benefit from the workout I do.

Honestly. I don't think it really matters. I'm not a morning person so I exercise in the evenings, always! Either way, your gonna burn those calories morning, noon or night! Good luck!
  • Thanks, do you do your exercise before dinner or after?

I don't think it matters. I do Zumba at night and on my non Zumba days I work out in the am. I am loosing weight with no problem.

I don't think it really matters, so long as you're getting some form of exercise and you're making the right food choices, then you're on the right path to a healthier new you.

I personally couldn't work out in the morning, I love my bed too much to make a 5am effort. I usually try and work out mid afternoon - reason being, it's usually quieter at my gym around that time, but recently it seems people are catching on! haha

I think anytime is good as long as you do it.
But I think morning is better because too many things can happen during a day that can throw off plans for evening exercise. At least for me. I love the feeling of being done working out first thing in the morning (but lately I've been exercising in the afternoon).

and I guess sometimes exercising in the evening can make it harder to fall asleep at night.

Ahhh that's true! I also find it harder to fall asleep if I've left it quite late in the day to workout.

The best time to exercise is when you can and will do it consistently.
  • I would think the morning is better because of what tabby said about things happening during the day can throw you off. Also you can better plan your food for the day if you already know the calories burned from a workout.
Personally though, I work out at night. I like to do it right before supper because I'm going to be hungry when I get home so I'd rather eat my supper than grabbing a snack. Calories burned is calories burned
  • Thank you all for your input. It helps a lot. I thought maybe mornings ( I am not a morning person at all ) but nothing says it has to be at 5 am. ;)

I was thinking mornings because it will help you burn calories throughout the day. But then I thought maybe night because it will help you burn the calories in your less active part of you day.

I think I will do nights for awhile and see how it goes for me. I guess that is the only way I will find out what really works for myself.

    Thanks again!

Well even after exercise, there is the "after burn". You still continue burning hours after you have done a work out.
