Steet Bike Advice

Hey, I just got a pretty sizeable sum from Uncle Sam recently and was thinking about investing in a street bike.
I have roughly $700 to spend, does anyone know anything about this? I'm not intested in anything off-road, but I enjoy my RPM classes so much I'd love to do it outside now that the weather is getting good (yeah, our summer comes mid-February in Texas).
I'm mainly looking for a serious hobby/new exercise method, but with enough practice I think joining some races would be pretty exciting.
Thanks for your help, guys!

I'm a road cyclist but only for about a year. There is a club here called MFP CYCLING CLUB that has people who have been riding for years. They would be a huge help in figuring out a great bike for you. Best of luck to ya and happy cycling!!0

Where in Texas are you? I live in DFW and there are a number of stores that will sell used road bikes starting at $400-500. The best advice I can give you - as a beginning triathlete - is don't spend a ton on a bike until you KNOW you are going to like it and stick with it. Good, new bikes can easily run in the $2000-5000 range. I got my bike on Craig's List for $200 and when I can, I'll upgrade. Hope this helps!0

They say all cyclists have a fave store. I usually HATE the big conglamorates but I love REI. I bought mine in late october and got a killer deal it was in the 400 range. They did a check on it to make sure it was safe and ready for me to ride asap. They also have a gear/bike mechanic shop on premise and you can get tune ups and what not whenever you need them.0
