Thoughts on Intuitive Eating (continuation of 'to run or not

So now that I've decided to sign up for a 10 mile race coming in May, I realize that I need to get serious about losing weight and exercising more. There is only one snag that I need my MFP friends to help me with...
I used to have a very very serious eating disorder in which I obsessed about EVERYTHING. Horrible. Not good, my weight was down to nothing and although I was running 6 miles a day I felt like hell.
Flash forward to now and I'm about 30 lbs heavier than my goal, but still in pretty good shape. Problem is, I seem to only be able to obsess about one thing at a time now. When I was anorexic, I was OCD about pretty much anything you can think of and now my brain only has so much room for obsession.
I am thinking about concentrating on my running mileage goal and not "counting" my calories here on MFP. I want to make sure I'm eating healthy and "fueling the machine" but I just don't have anymore room left in my mind to worry about every bite.
So I was thinking about intuitive eating instead of calorie counting? Anyone know anything about this? I'm giving it a shot today and so far it feels alright. Low fat cottage cheese for breakfast, and an apple; greek salad with feta, tomatoes, onions, and chickpeas for lunch (no dressing); combos for a snack * i know i know, but it was the portion controlled package so yay for that!* And for dinner my mom is making homemade mac and cheese, so I'm going to put it in a baby sized bowl and see how I feel after eating that and TONS of steamed veggies *green beans, broccoli*.
So basically, does this sound like a good idea? Suggestions, experiences, anything is appreciated.
