Triathlete trying to achieve race-day goal!

Hi everyone!
I would classify myself as a fairly experienced triathlete, since I’ve been doing them for 7 years. However, over the last year and a half I have had some health problems and decided last summer to do another Ironman triathlon. Somehow my metabolism has slowed down (I guess I hit 30 and “they” say that happens) and losing weight just isn’t as easy as it used to be. Over the year and a half, I still did races, but I had all but stopped training. I was still active, walking a lot and biking around town, but I was not training and definitely wasn’t watching what I was eating. Since I’ve vegan, I didn’t really notice it.
So I have been training in preparation for my third Ironman triathlon at the end of August. When I weighed myself in December I was aghast to find that I weighed 137 pounds! I knew that losing weight wasn’t going to be easy, but with my training I thought I would lose the first 10 pounds pretty easily. I have lost 5 pounds since December, but am having a difficult time breaking the 130 barrier. That’s when a friend of mine told me about this site. My race-weight goal is 120 and I am sure that I can make that happen.
For those of you who don’t know, an Ironman-distance triathlon is 3.8km swim, 180km bike, and 42km run. The marathon is really why I want to lose this extra weight. It’s not so bad to have some extra weight for the swim and bike, but carrying around an extra 10-15 pounds for 42km is just not fun. Also, I think that losing this weight will help me just not “feel” so heavy.
I am looking for people to inspire and be inspired, so add me if you feel like it.

I found that training alone does not take of enough weight. I have watch what I eat and how much I eat. I have done many triathalons and my best results have come when my weight is lower than it is now. This site has helped me start to lose the extra pounds that i have been carrying around. Others tell me that a 10 pound weight loss equals a 1 minute reduction in your 5 k run time. So I hope 15 pounds off will really help my bike and run splits. We will see what happens in June when race season starts. A healthy diet should be an easy way to improve my speed without adding even more training.0

I was supporting at the Enduroman http://www.enduroman.com/doublehome.html
Double & Triple Ironman last year. My friend was the only girl doing the triple (50:38:39). There was a girl doing the double who was running for Vegan Runners UK

I know they have a little forum, just case you needed any peer support around nutrition that's more specialist than what you may have here.
We also have a little triathlon thread in the Fitness & Exercise section. You can find it by using the search function. It's called "Any triathletes?" Mosly newbies but they would probably benefit from your experience.
Welcome to the forum. :drinker:0
