Junk food question?

Do all my calories have to be good or can I have 1 pop a day with 100 calories of chips and still be okay?

It's about calorie count. When you eat less calories than you used that day-- you lose weight. Soda and chips are bad because they are calories that give you no nutrition and don't fill you up. So you're essentially wasting your calories. They're not bad to eat, but you'd be better without them!0

I think this is up to you
for me I aim to get fiv fruits and veg a day bfore any junk0 -
In theory you want all good calories however I believe it is fine to treat your self once in a while. The idea is to turn it into a bad habit.0

If you're drinking a 20oz regular pop, you're taking in about 280 calories. Add the 100 from chips or other snacks and you're looking at almost 400. There are so many better ways to invest those 400 cals. This could be a once a week thing, but daily I would highly advise against.
Also, pop is full of sugar which can cause an insulin spike and is not conducive to losing weight. Most importantly, be accountable for the extra calories. Make sure you cut elsewhere to fit in your snacking.0 -
I drink half a can of soda each day and 11 doritos or other chips with my lunch and it hasn't affected my weight loss.
ETA: I do make sure to get in my fruits and veggies and everything else good for me.0 -
I think it's ok to snack on them, but just daily, at every meal, or replacing fruits and veggies you know?
I had like 5-6 cool ranch dorito's today for the first time in 3 months.. they were so yummy.. but I drank water w/ them, I have not had pop in since I started this site, i have limited tea as well. Drinking mostly bottled water, and every now and then a cup of hot tea w/ 1 tsp sugar..
I think it's up the individual person... Don't starve yourself of the stuff you like, but at the same time DON"T OVER DO IT EITHER! You know. if you feel guilty about it later, then I suggest not doing it again.0 -
Hey guys!
I was wondering about this too. I am counting my calories very carefully and I have almost 300 left for today. I could wait a bit and have a healthy late night snack (maybe some flax bread I made) or I can have a cookie which I am very much craving. I won't be hungry later tonight as I had a bigish dinner (VERY healthy!) but I am craving sugar.
They're not very big cookies, either. I dunno, seems like I could have one, no?0 -
I try to 'cheat' with healthier foods. I do not eat chips or soda at all anymore, but than I do not crave them like I used too either after cutting them out of my diet entirely. I have changed the way I look at food these days too, I try to think of it as a fuel source for my body instead of something to 'enjoy'. The emotional attachment to food can be a hard thing to get past.0

It's a slippery slope in that you may take in less calories then you burn, but you also need to watch out for excess sodium which can impact your internal organs. I try to steer clear of excess sodium for that reason. Also, excess sodium can hurt your weight gain because it can cause you to retain water.0

I am just so used to doing it I don't think I can cut it out cold turkey. May I will try 3 days a week and slowly cut it out. Thanks so much.0
