I need more "volume" in my food... low cal, high volume?

I think I am eating too many calorie dense foods - because I feel like I am just not eating enough, yet, the calories are there. What are some of your high volume, low calorie foods or recipes?

Good old fashioned veggies. I usually eat a HUGE salad, veggies only, at lunch and it makes me feel much more satisfied.
  • Veggie salads are great, fresh fruits, low calorie yogurts, string cheese, love cantaloupe and it really fills me up, oatmeal, chicken, fish, popcorn are all regulars in my daily diet.

Yup, veggies. I have a huge plateful of green veggies for around 80 calories. If youre not over keen on them try adding spices. I love them but like adding black pepper, garlic and cayenne pepper to mine...spices em up nicely.
  • I eat celery and peanut butter. I know the peanut butter isn't low cal, but it's high protein which leaves me feeling fuller longer, and the celery provides a very satisfying crunch. I also like air-popped plain popcorn for snacking because i can munch on it for quite a while and it's pretty low-cal as long as there's no oil or butter. And again, the crunch is satisfying. :-)

I just looked at your diary and there is quite a lot of room for change.

To start with, don't drink your calories. Swap your juice for an actual piece of fruit - or a low cal yoghurt etc.
    Eat porridge (made with water)
Get rid of that salad dressing! 140 cals is massive! That's a whole slice of bread
Eggs are great but high cal and high cholesterol - try egg whites instead
Fruit and veg are great to bulk things out. You can heap veg on your dinner plate and feel full on very little cals.
Not sure what taco meat exactly is, but you could swap to chicken breast/ fish/ prawns

    Hope that helps some.

I make "taco" salads using black beans for protien. Tonight I had brown rice, black beans, corn, and chipotle style dice tomatoes (canned) with a little cheddar for supper. Fish is also a great way to go for lean, low cal protien.
