For those out running and pounding the pavement, I am trying to figure out if I can call myself a real "runner" yet. Can you share with me?

How often are you running per week?

How far do you run each time?

How long does it take you to run a mile?

How many calories do you burn each time?

I run 7 days a week, 5 miles a day. If I run 1 mile I can do it in 7 minutes, but it takes me 40 minutes to run 5 miles. I burn about 500 calorie a day running.

Do you use a HRM? I just ran 3 miles and according to my HRM I burned 610 calories. I am glad you posted, I just get so confuzzled about all this stuff!

    I just added this:

I just thought of some things...I am more out of shape than you, heavier, and shorter. My pounding the pavement is more like a St. Bernard going after a donut, and you are probably more of a gazelle sauntering in rhythmic motion.

Again, thank you for sharing with me!!! Keep it up girlie! Yey you!!! :flowerforyou:

Sweetheart ...there is no exact definition of a real runner! If you do it once a week or once a month - you are a runner! You have been on our Runners Club posts and you know we will cheer you on no matter what your weekly mileage is!! We are a non-discriminating Club!!!

I run 4 days a week (mon, tues, wed, sat), strength train one day (tues) and XT (elliptical, bike, spinning) on the 5th day (thurs) then the best days are: friday and sunday - REST!

I run 3-5 miles during the week and then long runs on Saturday are progressing each week - I am currently up to 7 miles (started at 2!) aiming for 10 but end of August!

I usually burn around 500 calories depending on distance and time.

Yah, my HRM says I burn about 500-600 calories for 3 miles depending on how hard I push. It depends on fitness level and body mass. I am not in excellent shape, but very good shape, and have a BMI of 21.8. My husband, on the other hand, is a lot heavier than me and can burn about 1200 calories in a 3 mile run. So it's all individual.

    I'm running 5-6 nights a week (and biking 3 days a week).

I'm running 2-3 miles each time.

It looks like tonight I did about a 13 minute mile, but it was a sloooooooooooow night since I was BEAT! But I really wanted to sit on the couch...So I at least got up! LOL

My HRM read 610 calories burned. I am either really beating the pavement tonight, or my tired body is so out of shape. :drinker:

WHATEVER!!! I moved verses sitting! Yey!

I also noticed that I used to burn alot more calories running when I was heavier, but the more weight I lose the less calories I seem to burn. that kinda sux!!!

Have you been behind me on the treadmill and I didn't know it???? :embarassed: :embarassed: :noway:

Good thing you are across the country, otherwise I'd worry that you had seen me

I am pretty heavy, (190) and I run 5 miles four times a week and I burn 600 calories each time. I use an HRM but I always subtract 100 calories for every hour that I run (BMR). I run five miles in 50 min. on saturdays i try to do 7-8 miles. those days i burn around 800 calories. hope this helps

I think the way I run is call Galumping, or galumphing, something like that. Good thing I have small feet, otherwise I'd make a terrible racket.
