I just got back from taking my Asics back to the store, and getting fitted at a running store for Saucony (sp?) I feel disloyal for taking back the Asics, but this time around, they were bothering my feet. Anyway, I get home, and of course want to hit the treadmill, and enjoy some music...but it's my day of rest, lol! A few months ago, when I was just starting out, I never would have thought I'd be looking *forward* to exercising. Sooo, not a big goal, but a goal for me, nonetheless. :)

I've been trying to be active on rest days. Last time I went dor 5 mile hike. It was less intense than workout days but I felt great and better than when I was lazy on rest days. Enjoy your Sauconys. I love mine.

Yay!!! I'm like you. I never wanted to exercise, but now that I'm in the habit, I feel sluggish or like I'm slacking off if I don't. ;-) Nice job on the running shoes. I picked up my first pair (Brooks) without being fitted because I wasn't sure I was gonna keep up with the running. Well, it's been driving me crazy that I haven't been able to run (weather), so I thing I've been officially "bitten" by the running bug! Time to look up local running stores!!!

I look forward to my workouts as well. I get pumped and my time is not negotiable because it is very important to me. Shoot, if you schedule time at the salon got get your hair done or pedicure, why not do the same for your workouts. It should be just as important if not more.

I love working out now and when I get that weird look from people when I say it, I just blow it off.
  • I like to see the calories burned! So it makes exercise fun!

Not so crazy. I get a little edgy on days I don't exercise

OK - so I'm new at this. I have been enjoying the exercise also, but I'm so conflicted when I sit down to eat after! I guess that's the point. But it feels counterproductive when I walk for 30 minutes then sit down to eat dinner. How do I get past this!?

I can't get over how much enjoyment I get from exercise now. I wish I hadn't wasted all those years not exercising and instead gaining weight! Don't get me wrong -- I get tired and beat out while I'm exercising, but I look forward to it before it happens and I LOVE it when I'm finished! I had to decide between an extra hour sleep or a workout this morning and a few months ago, sleep would have won every time, but not now!

That's the million dollar question! We've been programmed to think of food and calories as some sort of a villian that we need to vanquish and that's why I think so many people fail on their weight loss quests. You can't starve yourself. You'll die. You can't think of food as the enemy. It's what makes us able to do so many wonderful things. Without that food, you wouldn't be able to go for a nice therapeutic walk. You wouldn't even be able to blink.

Calories aren't the enemy -- too many of them is! Logging what you eat and being accountable ensures that you're feeding your body properly, but not feeding it at all is arguably worse.
  • That's awesome. I think the effects that the exercise starts changing our attitudes. It releases endorphins & makes our bodies so happy. I just got back from the gym & I have so much energy I wish I could go again (at work...). But congrats!!! I hope I get to the point where I am excited enough to wake up earlier LOL. Good luck on your journey :D

Thanks everyone, for the comments :)

Dmonique85-can't say I'm excited to wake up early yet...lol! Good luck to you too!

RENAEJAE, Scagneti said it way better then I could have-I struggle with it too, but I also am more mindful of what kind of calories I'm sitting down to eat-doesn't mean I've given up my downfall of broasted chicken/chocolate/etc but I'm definitely saving it for special meals/family get togethers etc.

that's the best thing i've found with MFP so far.... I love the buzz you get when you've done a workout ... I feel satisfied when i'm dripping in sweat!

Last night I had my first rest from exercise in over 2 weeks. I felt naughty but relaxed at the same time. I ate light during the day so I knew i had more than enough calories for my dinner without my workout.

I'm not going to be able to exercise tonight either, as we've been invited to dinner at a friends house. So, to make sure I have enough calories left for dinner tonight I walked from the station to work (35 mins) instead of jumping on the tube and burnt 204 calories before breakfast!!

I would never have thought like this before I started MFP.
