So, I looked to see if this has been posted before...I got to page three and stopped.......

So, when you are so sore that walking and sitting hurts.......do you keep working out? Or do you give yourself a day off? I have been working really hard to work out every day and proud to say I have now for 3 weeks. I tried a few new videos that were probably above my fitness level....and now I am so sore......

Should I work out tonight with one of my easier workouts? Or try to do the harder video again? I don't want to mess anything up!!!!

Any advice would be great!!!

listen to your body always ...

    Where are you sore?

My upper thighs are extremely sore from my half marathon training, so I'm taking two days off rest, 1 day complete rest and tonight I'll do my P90X Arms and shoulders work out for strength training, but becuase that won't use the part of my body that hurts :)

    What are you doing?

You should give muscle groups a day of recovery. So work upper groups one day, lower the next. Always take at least one day off entirely for a recovery day.

When you are doing strenuous exercise you are tearing the muscle fibers and they need to rebuild to become stronger.

You can do cardio six days a week, just vary your routine (walk/run, swim, bike, dance alternately)

you should take at least one rest day a week --- sometimes two, that when the muscles recover and build :)

I agree, always listen to your body. The instructor at my old gym said you should always have a day off to let muscles recover. Alternating the muscle grooups sounds like a great idea.

You should have 1-2 complete rest days a week.

Anytime I do a workout that is overly strenuous (about 1x a week I increase the dist on my long runs) I take a day to do Slow paced yoga and pilates moves. Your body will recover faster if you stretch out those over worked muscles (slowly, gently, but stretch as fully as you can)

I am sore in my legs and butt...the Jillian Micheal's video...target your trouble spots one day and the 6 week 6 pack the next....it is suppose to help with muffin top, saddle bags and arms........
I was doing Leslie Sansone Walk 3 miles fast then went to her boot camp.

As the day goes on....my whole body is getting sore!!!!

    Hey!

I think it is normal, my first 2 weeks at the gym i couldn't walk, so if I ached I didn;t work out, but did the same thing after a day off.

Make sure you have a good old stretch of your legs and arms and waist before working out and if your at the gym do the same between different aparatus.

Also, eat or drink something to recover from your workout (your muscles will thank you for it!!) for me at the moment its a alpro soya chocolate milkshake immediately after exercising. In short, somehting with some protein and sugars.

This is how I dealt with it anyway- I havent ached since!

I continue to workout, but I will work a different muscle group. For example, my legs were so sore I could hardly walk the other day (damn box jumps), so the next day I walked on the treadmill at a slow pace to loosen up the muscles and then I worked upper body and abs.

Since the sore muscles is from lactic acid build up- you need to focus on getting oxygen to your muscles... translation DRINK LOTS OF WATER to help your sore muscle recovery.
