Hello all! I am looking for suggestions on what the best calorie burning workouts are for beginners. I walk, ride bikes, and play Wii Fit, but I am BORED. I like jumping rope and playing tennis, but I cannot do it very long before I am so exhausted my head is pounding and I am VERY short of breath.

What do you suggest for beginners and preferably something I can do with a 2 yr old around! Thanks!

You need to find something you love so you'll stick with it. I started out walking, but now run. I'm fortunate to live in an area with lots of different scenic routes to do both.

Also, a good MP3 player and a pair of headphones helps tremendously with the boredom.

I do Leslie Sansone walking at home dvd's. they will do a good job at pushing you, but not beyond your boundaries and you can do it in a small space and your kid can be around.
  • I second the Leslie Sansone DVDs

I have been doing Leslie Sansone's 5 day slim down DVD for about 7 weeks. I really like it and I wasn't used to any exercise to speak of before!

Since you have the Wii, and a little one, I would suggest some of the dancing games. I personally love Just Dance (1 and 2!), and my kids think they are just fun for them to play. They barely realize it is an entire workout too!
Now granted your 2 year old won't be playing a dance game, but you can dance with your little one, and even make up your own moves if you want. After all, it's just a game, it's not as though your "score" is going to make or break you!
Good luck and I hope you find something fun soon!
  • If you like tennis, you should try Cardio Tennis. It's a cardio workout included in tennis drills. I do it three times a week and LOVE it. At first I could barely do it but i just stepped out until I could catch my breath. After a few times you'll be able to do it all. Google Cardio Tennis and you can find a tennis center near you that has the class.
