I want to drop atleast 20-30 lbs by May 15. I am trying to run a minimum of 3 miles four times a week, and also I think I am going to start going to the gym in the afternoons for aerobics class/spinning/weight training. Pairing this with eating well, no junk food, is this a realistic goal?

Right now I am only running my 3 miles a few times a week and eating healthy. I haven't started the 2x days at the gym. I am starting to feel discouraged, like it's never gonna happen. Right now Im 166, started at 176 at the beginning of Jan.

15th May s not that far away? (10 weeks or so)

I guess 2lbs a week is just about do-able but as you are heading towards your goal weight things may slow down... I find 1lb per week much more attainable (I lost 36lbs a few years ago and it took about 32 weeks!)

Is there any reason for this deadline?
  • What's the rush? I started losing weight July 2010, started at 172 and I'm down to 146 but it's took 7 months so far, most weeks it was a steady 1lb a week loss and other weeks I maintained. We need to give our bodies time to adapt to the change and losing weight too fast could have a bad effect in the long term. Don't get me wrong... I want the weight to go quickly but I find this way is a much more maitainable lifestyle; ie. regular exercise but not overdoing it and healthy meals with portion control.

That means you have approximately 2 1/2 months to accomplish your goal, or about 10 weeks. That means you would need to drop 2 to 3 pounds per week. That is 7000or 10500 calories burned per week (1000 calories per day).

I would try to do 2 miles everyday, 2 to 3 workouts at the gym per week, and to cut back about 500 calories in your meals.

    Good luck :)
