OMG!! Everytime i log on to MFP the add for the HCG drops pops up. So out of curiousity i clicked on it because i wanted to see how much the are charging people for this s*it! i read the " protocol" ( the rules of the diet) CAN I SAY OMG again!!
That has got to be the worst "diet" plan ever!!! i cannot believe people would even try this.
A Dr at my work offers the HCG injections at his office and a lot of the people I work with tried them at one point and HECK yes they lost weight quick but not a single one of them kept it off (including the DR.)
500 calories!! 500 calories for up to 6 weeks! Thats nuts. my favorite part was when your on the maintance phase and you start reintroducing food back, if in one days time you gain 2 lbs they want you to not eat all day until dinner then you are to have a steak.. YA A STEAK. and either an apple or A tomato, then they sau you should be back down those 2 lbs!!
That sounds as safe as sticking your finger down your throat and making yourself vomit after each meal!! LOL
this is why I love MFP!! They encourage you to eat. Even to eat the calories you burn with exercise!! MFP is a life style change!!

I know the ads keep the site free but come one. They should have some say in what ads are permitted here.0

I dont agree with it, Its the 500 calories that are 99% to "thank" for the weight loss but maybe you could get your mum to sign up here to start learning the healthy way to keep it off once shes at goal. Then all the money she has spent wont be for nothing0 -
I agree!
There is no magic pill, shake or injection.

This 'diet' has caused deaths, illnesses but still people want a magic fix and the worst is when they try and force it on everyone else saying it's the only way. Sure we could all drop at least a pound a day eating a mere 500 calories but what is the point if nothing is learned and the weight comes right back on.
I recall reading the Women talking (several guys are on it here too which is SCARY since it's a pregnancy hormone) about getting their periods 3-5 times a month! Yikes, definitely sounds like a side effect to me plus what's down the road because of the drugs and limiting the calories so low?
Reading about Melba toast, apple day and steak day. I remember when the Beverly Hills Diet was popular and always in the news years ago you had an apple day, a steak day, a papaya day. LOL Oh, it's just too crazy to even comprehend so I have to just laugh now at the absurdity of the whole thing when People want to eat only one food a day unlimited. Surely we all know leaving out whole food groups is not healthy?
Common sense doesn't even come in to play in this concept. We could all eat 500 calories a day and lose many lbs. but isn't our goal to keep the weight off by losing it in a healthy manner. A slow safe way to reduce excess skin issues, not starve our bodies and to create a new way of eating healthy.
Will people on the hormone diet continue to eat Melba Toast the rest of their life? I've not known anyone that's kept the weight off, yes dropped it very quickly but then struggled along the way because the food choices are so limiting.
I see ads all over the place for this hormone diet now and it makes me cringe thinking of all the desperate people wanting to drop weight at any cost (figuratively and literal), it's sad really. Plus all the people making money off of them!
Good point Kaleighlegler, many looking for a quick fix is what it's about, unfortunately instead of putting the work in that it takes to do it in a healthy manner some want it overnight. Quick fixes have never turned out to be successful for anyone. :noway:
Plus the fact that we never put the weight on overnight so how on earth would we expect to lose it that way and keep it off?:huh:0 -
Oh the joys of an ad blocker.0

OMG! This is unbelievable, but then again, anything is possible these days with TV doctors.
Here's some of the article from the link shared above:
"The other day I received a note from the Dr. Oz PR team informing me of his upcoming show (aired two days ago) on the HCG diet.
For those of you who don't know, the HCG diet is one of those ridiculous injection diets. The kind where you see a physician who prescribes an insanely low number of daily calories (500) along with injections. Here in Canada those injections are usually B-vitamins , while in the States they're often Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG injections for weight loss aren't kosher here in Canada).
The scientific literature on HCG as a weight loss aid is extremely clear. Randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled trials have demonstrated that HCG shots doesn't work any better than shots of salt water at appetite suppression or weight loss.
In fact as Travis once pointed out on Obesity Panacea, the disclaimers on HCG providers' own websites speak for themselves as to HCG's utility,
"HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or "normal" distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets"
The show was predictable. Dr. Oz spent the bulk of the show obtaining testimonials from HCG providers and dieters, mentioned how his wife has done the HCG diet, spent a scant amount of time with HCG detractors, mentioned that the complete and utter lack of medical evidence to support its use was counter-balanced by the 4 people he had in his audience who had succeeded in losing weight, called for further study, suggested it was worth a try, and wondered if future research into it may in fact lead to a cure for obesity.
And while that's shocking to anyone who cares about evidence based medicine, it's not so shocking for Dr. Oz as he's long since sold himself out to non-scientific, non-evidence based woo, even promoting a faith healer on his show."0 -
Part 2 of Dr. Oz saga
"What is perhaps news is a link sent to me by Weight Maven's Beth Mazur. It's a link to one of Dr. Oz' own webpages entitled, "The Shortcuts Dr. Oz Would Never Take" and it was posted just 3 short months ago.
The first shortcut "Dr. Oz would never take"?
The HCG Diet.
Here's what he said about it just 3 months ago,
"Initially, this diet may help you rapidly drop pounds. Ultimately, it destroys your metabolism, as you are essentially starving yourself. Another negative side effect is the loss of muscle mass, so much that you will no longer be able to effectively burn calories."
And now?
"If you find someone like Dr. Emma (the HCG provider he had on his show), I think it's worth trying"
And how much will it cost his viewers who take his advice to try the diet scientifically proven to be useless and the one he himself rightly reports is likely to dramatically impact on muscle mass, so much so that weight regain will be far more likely?
Dr. Emma charges her patients $800 for 6 weeks of this sham treatment.
So thanks Dr. Oz for promoting the exploitation of your viewers, for embarrassing our shared profession, and for being such a stellar role model for how not to embrace fame and fortune. ":noway:0 -
I've read many articles that claim that the homeopathic hcg drops do not even contain hcg. So what IS in there? Everyone is free to chose their own way toward reaching their goals. However, if it were a family member or someone that I loved who decided to go the hcg route, I would be shouting from the rooftops NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most all of us on this site know first hand how hard, sometimes seemingly impossible it is to lose weight. But we are here and dedicated to the cause. What I believe, and this is just my personal opinion- right or wrong, is that those who go the hcg route would have to be more concerned about vanity than health. I want to be healthy and thin. And I'll do it the hard way, the healthy way. With hcg, I believe you are putting your health at risk, and may not be aware of what damage you have done to your body for years to come.0
