I have access to scientific journal sites so I did some researching and basically whey protein DOES help build lean muscle mass and lower fasting lipids and insulin in obese individuals and overweight individuals. It also improves your strength and weight training performance. This does not mean it will help you lose weight so if you are taking protein shakes make sure you're still within your calorie goal.

Here are the articles; (they're only the abstracts because you need access to the full articles)

  • I live by it.... But, you have to be sensible. If you have muscle milk brand, that is more of a mass gainer. I use Optimum Nutrition Gold whey. 24g protein per scoop, 120cal, 1g fat, 2 carbs.... Perfect to add extra protein into your diet... I use it in the morning and post workout. Bad rap is deserved for some of them, as they are more for packing on muscle and bulk. Its up to the consumer to be careful and do research before they buy...
