I'd done some reading about how it's so much healthier to lose weight slowly and the odd of keeping it off are much better.

To get to my first goal (a healthy BMI) I used the 1lb/week setting.
To lose some vanity pounds after that I switched to the 1/2lb/week setting.

I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH ANXIETY I'VE HAD OVER ADDING BACK CALORIES!?!?!?!?!

There is a part of me that panics and feels like I'm going to spin out of control....

Then there is part of me that says keep calm and work the plan... slower is better.
Using the tools available here on MFP I've done all the calculations and in my brain I think it's a good plan.

(Originally I'd planned on doing the 1st half of my vanity pounds at 1/2lb/week and the 2nd half setting the custom goal at the amount of calories to MAINTAIN MY GOAL WEIGHT that would be REALLY slow. It comes out to lose .1 lb a week, which would be 50 weeks for my last 5 lbs. I don't think I"m that patient, but the upside would be I'd already know how to maintain when I got to my goal)

What am I going to do when it comes time to maintaining?

I sure am going to need MFP big time when it comes to maintaining.

I know what you mean. I'm real close to my goal, and I'm worried that once I reach it - then what? Will I slowly have to bump up my cal. again, to see how high I can go without gaining weight? I can't eat 1200 cal/day forever. I know what my "maintenance calories" for my goal weight are, but as we all know, that's just a guideline.

One thing I'm doing now is ever so slightly increasing my calories, while still trying to maintain a weight loss. It may go more slowly (like you said), but it may be easier in the long run than trying to incr. my cal. from 1200. I don't know. I've never really ever gotten to my goal, so we'll see! Maybe someone else has some insight?

OMG, I look at your goal!
Wow, your start weight is lower than my goal weight.

Just goes to show we all have different metabolisms and challenges.

I got down to 125 for about 15 seconds about 32 years ago. It was COMPLETELY impossible for me to maintain.

141 was my "happy weight" up until I was in my mid 30s.
(Then I got hit with a series of health challenge and the weight just kept going up.
I wanted to lose 30 lbs the Doc said 10 so we split the difference, sort of)

been there done that i have what most people would call vanity pounds too. I guess most people on here would love to be my weight at 120 and 5 foot 8 but i wanted alittle less. I got a little less and then....i switched to maintaing wieght...in one week i gained four pounds and i never once ate more the it told me to!

Careful, that's looking dangerously close to "underweight" which comes with a whole different set of profound health issues.
Listen to your body on this one.

A good idea. I think I'm going to bump mine calories up gradually. It didn't really occur to me before that I wouldn't be able to come to a screeching halt. Once it was time to maintain.

And I'm probably not supposed to be losing the last 5lbs anyway. Dr.'s apt in a couple of weeks... I'm going to try to at least slow it down and see what she has to say.
