How many calories do you burn on average? I'm thinking about going to spin tomorrow morning instead of step and I was just wondering!

If you do it vigorously you can burn 800 if you do moderate workout, which is hard to do in one of those classes it is 500 and some. Very good workout!!!

Yesterday, I wore my heart monitor for the first time and in 30 minutes it says I burned 327 calories. Don't know if that helps or not. Cycle classes take a little getting used to, but remember to go at your own pace, not necessarily the instructor until you're comfortable. Have someone help you adjust your bike. It makes all the difference in the world. And enjoy. It can be challenging and fun.
  • I have been doing spinning classes at California Fitness Gym (Singapore) for about 1 year. There are a few types of classes, 60mins each

Fat burn endurance class - maintain heart rate between 65-75%, burn around 400-500
Intervals class - work at 85%, with rest in between, burn around 500-600
Hills - work at 75-85%, sometimes up to 92%, not much rest in between, burn around 550-650
All Terrain - work from 65-92%, burn around 550-650

Rest is still spinning but allow heart rate to go to 65% and no lower.

I am currently looking forward to a 3-hr challenge ride in Jul. So far, have tried 2 hr spin classes, but will be my 1st 3 hr challenge.

For newbies, it's hard when starting initially. The butt hurts cos of the hard seat, and tiring cos of lack of stamina. Keep at it, it will get a little easier. It does pay off. I lost a lot of weight/fat from spinning regularly.
