Anyone got any tips on this protein shake, whey protein, and recovery drink thing? Some say take it before workout, some say take it after, and some say don't take it at all. Do you eat after the workout? Do you eat 2-3 hours before?? What is the deal? Not even sure I am getting the nutrition plan right. All I know is I am hungry all the time now that I am working out. (P90X)

I did P90X twice and Insanity workouts. I did a protein shake 1 hour before and right after. I also did a night time shake depending when you are working out. If you are exercising at night, I would skip the night time shake. I hope this helps. Keep up the good work. P90X is not an easy workout. It will get you ripped. Awesome!
  • chocolate milk is always a good recovery drink, milk provides vital nutrients and the chocolate helps with protein synthesis to help your muscles recover quicker. I have taken Syntha-6 by bsn and saw great results taking it within 20-30 minutes post workout. If i took it before i would throw it up, i did early workouts so it was pretty much wake up, drink some water and workout.

I drink chocolate milk after I workout all the time. I usually can't eat or drink anything right before working out unless it's water.

I have a yogurt or small breakfast before working out and another breakfast with extra protein after - sometimes that is a protein shake that I make (I don't like the pre-made ones). Gotta see what works best for you but I have been told numerous times to have some protein within 1-2 hrs following a hard workout.

You can eat cottage cheese also. Especially before bed. Cottage cheese consists of slow releasing proteins which will feed the muscles all night.

body fortress- super advanced whey protein, for dieting.. take it 1/2 an hour before your workout, with water or skim milk.. or you can take it immediately after an intense workout as well.

@kouzzz - Any other ideas except cottage cheese. Never tasted it in my life. Just something that never looked appealing...lol. You said that u did the P90X twice and Insanity once, did the pain ever go away? Were you able to complete the 2nd rounds on P90X? I am still at it. Not giving up. Now back to the food, what about protein bars? Did you eat them and did you gain weight eating them? I am new at this so I have a lot of questions.
