Six 10-minutes or straight 60 minutes?

I am not able to make it to the gym today and have a packed day with work and kids, etc. I was trying to get in 10 minute high cardio exercising breaks while I'm working. Is the benefit less than doing straight 60 minutes? I know that something is better than nothing, at least I hope so. What do you think?

Good question. I've heard that exercising at least 30 minutes a day is needed but don't know if you can break that up or not and get full benefit. Would seem like it should work anyway. Hope someone knows the answer.

When I wear my HRM I burn about 67 calories in those ten minutes. That would mean I would burn 670 calories if I did it six times, right? I'm just not sure that it's the same as say taking a 60-minute aerobic class.

It'll help somewhat, but you won't get the full benefit I don't *think*...
Back when I first started exercising I was aiming for two or three smaller work outs and I didn't lose anything there for a while until I was able to get in the full work out....good luck!

It's definitely better than just skipping a workout. Every little bit helps.

As far as building your endurance goes, doing 6-10 minutes work outs won't do a whole lot. But, just looking in terms of calories burned its the same affect so definately stick with it. When I'm in school I ussually have to break up my workouts too and do some between classes. I liked it, I thought my energy levels stayed high. The only problem I had was getting those hunger pangs you get after a work out multiple times in a day. I'd keep a clemintine and some crackers on me for that. Also, a glass of milk right after a workout curbs that hunger too.

I agree with Meg. It won't help endurance, but the calorie burn should be the same.
